Dubai-based Sat Insulation Materials Industry (SAT), a member of the Sat Group of companies, has set up a new factory manufacturing pre-insulated panels, which are currently being imported from Europe.

SAT Insulation Material Industry is the first factory of its kind in the region with a high production capacity producing continuous Polyisocyanurate (PIR), a derivative of polyurethane (PU), and phenolic insulated panels.
SAT duct, which is used for ducting network system, is one of the various products planned to be produced by our facility, says Salah Khalili, deputy director of SAT Group of Companies.

The 90,000 sq ft factory is newly built in Jebel Ali  and the Dh15 million ($4 million) first phase will be operational shortly. In the first phase, we will be manufacturing 4 m by 1.2 m pre-insulated PIR panels for air-conditioning ducting systems. The factory is fully automatic and equipped with latest technology machinery from the US. It has the capacity to produce 6 million sq m per year, he says.

Polyisocyanurate panels are manufactured by using a special chemical formula and are 15 to 20 per cent cheaper than conventional GI (galvanised iron) duct system. The panels comprise PIR foam panels with aluminium profile and all required accessories.

The project has been implemented with the collaboration of one of the most experienced US firms in this field. We have hired an internationally recognised leading chemical scientist for the project. Raw materials are procured from the US, Europe and also locally, he says. ''Phase two is due to be operational early next year. It will involve manufacturing phenolic foam panels. This product offers better insulation and best fire retardance and does not emit smoke.''

There are very few manufacturers of phenolic foam in the world as it is a very difficult technology, he adds.
The final phase of the project, to be operational next year-end, includes the manufacture of blocks of both materials, which will be cut into different shapes. Special moulds will be developed to manufacture blocks of different shapes for decorative purposes. This product will have both external and internal applications.
The entire project involves an investment of Dh20 million ($5.5 million)

SAT group is now taking the plunge into the industrial sector. Next year, the company will launch a maintenance-free water treatment system and also on the cards is a chemical factory, he says.

We have already established a successful sandwich panels factory for cold stores, cabins and normal warehouses in Yemen as a member of the same group, Khalili says.
