Building on the success of its acclaimed Centum Series generator sets, Cummins Power Generation has launched a 17-litre engine platform generator set that produces up to 1 MW of power.
Embodying the company’s century-long legacy of engineering excellence and innovation, the S17 Centum genset was developed to produce a large power output within a compact footprint to meet the growing demands of power in urban environments where compact design and high-performance are critical.
The fully-integrated, Cummins-built, designed and manufactured S17 has gone through more than 25,000 hours of testing and validation and is engineered to support a wide range of critical market segments, such as commercial properties, healthcare facilities, and water treatment plants, says the US-based manufacturer.
“Cummins engineering is committed to designing sustainable power solutions for our customers. We continue the expansion of the Centum product line to deliver increased power in a smaller space, and with seamless site integration. The S17 is engineered to redefine what you expect from an emergency standby package,” says Emily Scheuerell, Cummins Power Generation Global Engineering Leader.

The new dual turbo S17 engine leverages cutting-edge proprietary design tools and proven methodologies to deliver up to 1,000 kW and supports HVO (hydrotreated vegetable oil) fuel flexibility, offering high precision and compliance with emission standards.
“We are delighted to add another product under the Centum Series product line umbrella. This industry-changing 17-litre engine is unique in its ability to deliver 1,000 kW to the market with superior power density from a smaller footprint,” says Dean Gough, Cummins Power Gen Americas Marketing Leader and S17 Program Owner. “True to our brand promise, we continue to deliver uncompromising performance, helping our customers do more with less, reducing their total cost of ownership, while covering a broad spectrum of applications.”

Meanwhile, Cummins’ Power Generation business has also added new Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) solutions to its global product line. The development of these fully integrated BESS containers for AC output represents a significant push towards helping customers reach their sustainability goals, says the company.
“The global shift for renewable energy sources is becoming more profound,” says Lucio Kroll, Senior Director New Energy Solutions of Cummins Power Generation. “We’re proud to expand our offerings to include BESS, staying in line with that shift and serving our customers with safe and reliable solutions that can help them meet their energy transition goals.”

Cummins’ BESS solutions are available in two architectural designs: a 10-ft container and a 20-ft cube container. |
Cummins Power Generation’s BESS solutions are available in two architectural designs: a 10-ft container (200 to 400 kWh) and a 20-ft cube container (600 kWh to 2 MWh). Product features include proven lithium ferrophosphate (LFP) batteries for high cycle life, optimal liquid cooling thermal management designed to maximise battery life and reliability, complemented by a comprehensive three-tier fire safety approach. Additionally, the products are self-contained with plug-and-play functionality, making transportation and installation efficient and seamless, says Kroll.
This solution will respond to the power needs of industrial, commercial and mission critical markets operating in the 50 Hz frequency range. The three main use cases are off-grid (remote communities, mining sites, and remote industrial uses), energy management (EV charging infrastructure, commercial properties, and universities) and life-saving facilities (data centres, healthcare facilities and wastewater treatment plants).
