Diyar Al Muharraq and AtkinsRéalis officials signing the agreement.

DIYAR AL MUHARRAQ, a leading real estate development company in the Kingdom of Bahrain, said secondary infrastructure works have begun on its prime Al Wasem development and are likely to be completed by mid-2026.

Engineering consultancy services are being provided by Aecom, while execution works have been assigned to Al Ahlia Contracting Company. The scope of work includes a comprehensive package of essential utilities and services, covering road paving and street lighting, the installation of stormwater drainage systems, and development of sewage, irrigation, telecom, power and water networks.

Diyar Al Muharraq CEO Eng. Ahmed Ali Al Ammadi said: “We are pleased to commence secondary infrastructure work on Al Wasem and are committed to completing it on schedule. This marks a key milestone in our broader strategy to accelerate development across the North Islands.”

Strategically located, Al Wasem offers a variety of residential plots to cater to diverse family needs.

Featuring scenic views, the project comprises over 55 waterfront plots starting from 360 sq m. Additionally, over 80 inland plots starting at 300 sq m have been situated to provide privacy and comfort.

Meanwhile, AtkinsRéalis (formerly SNC-Lavalin) has been signed up as the lead consultant for the construction of two power stations – Umm Jaileed and Muharraq – within Diyar Al Muharraq city.

These 66 kV substations will be commissioned to supply power to the Al Wasem project, the commercial district, and the broader Northern Islands.

They are set to begin initial operations by 2026-end, with full functionality anticipated in the Q2 of 2027, it stated.

Lauding Diyar for its efforts, Karl Matalani, Vice President – Power for Middle East at AtkinsRéalis, said these power stations will play a vital role in strengthening the city’s infrastructure.

As part of the execution phase, Fuji Electric will supply the necessary equipment and transformers for both stations.

Saudi Cable Company will handle the manufacturing and deployment of the project’s cabling, while the Mohammed Jalal Contracting will oversee all civil works.
