The Big 5

Vehicle for growth

THE Big 5 PMV is staking claim to being the ‘heavyweight construction event’ of the region as leading international manufacturers of towering cranes, mammoth trucks, gigantic mobile concrete pumps, batching plant and a range of access equipment gear up for the show being held alongside The Big 5 show this month.

Live demonstrations – the star attraction of which is the JCB Dancing Diggers – are also set to animate the venue, the brand-new The Arena, Sheikh Saeed Halls of Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre. JCB, the world’s number one manufacturer of backhoe loaders, has been demonstrating the dexterity and power of its backhoes through JCB Dancing Digger shows for more than 40 years.
The third edition of The Big 5 PMV, the dedicated showcase for the construction plant, machinery, equipment and vehicles sector, is now being held under the same roof as The Big 5, which attracts more than 50,000 trade visitors. This new state-of-the-art exhibition hall is directly linked to The Big 5 and is built to a superior technical specification with significantly higher ceilings and increased weight loading capabilities to accommodate heavy plant, machinery and vehicles.
This niche event is committed to providing exhibitors with the opportunity to promote their products and services to key industry professionals in the Gulf region, who will be looking for solutions to their current and future construction projects.
Key buyers will include construction industry professionals, plant engineers, mechanical engineers, consultants, architects and contractors from all over the region and Europe, Asia and Africa.
Last year, the show attracted more than 6,400 dedicated visitors, a 29 per cent increase over the previous year when it made its debut at the Airport Expo Centre.
According to the organiser Streamline Marketing Group (SMG) – which is organising the event in conjunction with dmg world media – the lucrative machinery market is expected to grow by a further 20 per cent in the next five years. This figure will further rise as the region forges ahead with essential infrastructure development and expansion plans, it says.
The Big 5 PMV is a dedicated arena for products or services such as: construction machines, equipment and vehicles, formwork and scaffolding, handling and application systems for concrete and mortar at construction sites, safety equipment, lifting appliances and conveyors, machines and systems for producing asphalt and concrete, concrete products and pre-fabricated components, power generation units, accessories and wear parts, building material handling and packaging (in a plant), instrumentation and tools, to name a few.

The event has also chalked out a buyers programme to help boost business prospects for its exhibitors. “We are putting considerable emphasis on our key buyers programme, identifying those construction companies in the region who will be purchasing equipment and will utilise the show for their procurement needs. The combination of targeted marketing and a key location will cement The Big 5 PMV’s success in a difficult year,” says Nick Webb, director of SMG.
In the meantime, the show’s organisers have joined forces with retailers to offer exhibitors and visitors attractive discounts. Visitors can benefit from special offers with retailers at The Dubai Mall and Jumeirah Emirates Towers.
During the exhibition, select retailers at The Dubai Mall will be offering attractive discounts to Big 5 PMV exhibitor and visitor badge holders, and Jumeirah Emirates Towers will be offering a 30 per cent discount on food at their restaurants. Shuttle buses will carry exhibitors and visitors to The Dubai Mall, and will also be available for transportation between the Financial Centre and Al Jafiliya Dubai Metro stations and the exhibition venue.
