Saudi Arabia

Thirty strong

Unitech’s office in Jeddah.

As it marks three decades of “exceptional” service to the region, Unitech, a premier building and construction materials supplier in Saudi Arabia, looks ahead to a promising future by focusing on expanding its geographical reach across the Middle East and enhancing its product line-up.

“We have had several successful strategic growth opportunities since 2000, and have been able to expand and cover major parts of the GCC as well as the Middle East and North African (Mena) countries since then. This expansion enabled us to earn revenues of $130 million last year,” says a spokesperson for Unitech, which is a leading business arm of the diversified IKK group of companies.
“As part of our expansion and growth strategy, another manufacturing facility is to be built on 11,283 sq m area in Dubai Industrial City in the UAE will be operational by 2009. The plans are already in place and the construction phase for that facility will start soon. This factory will be equipped with the latest machines required for the fabrication of steel construction products and will also include a hot dip galvanization section,” he adds.
Unitech’s focus is to continuously upgrade itself as a solid well-organised and specialised building material company with a large Middle East geographic coverage, where well-trained and motivated personnel are the prime moving force, he points out.
The company’s effort to enhance its line of building products has led to the establishment of Specialized Factory for Steel Products (SFSP), which offers a wide range of building products that include mechanical cladding fixation, cable management systems, cable trays, ladders, trunkings, and support systems, pipe clamps and hangers, plasterers’ beads, expanded metals and block ladder reinforcements, steel lintels and blockwork accessories, gypsum profiles as well as garbage and linen chutes.
SFSP’s comprehensive solution of mechanical cladding fixation comprises a complete system of brackets and corbel angles with different materials available to suit the needs of specific projects. While many factors play a role in selecting the appropriate fixing system, the façade type and the environment remains the most crucial factors for the selection of brackets and angles.
“We offer a complete solution starting with an overall study of the project requirements, the consultation process, design and calculation, selection of materials and finishes to the submittal of the complete system. Our concern is to provide a solution, a complete solution to our clients rather than to sell the product itself,” he emphasises.
Unitech also has supporting plants based in Jeddah and Dammam in Saudi Arabia, Ajman and Al Quoz in the UAE and at 6th of October in Cairo in Egypt. The company is present in several major cities in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Jordan, Egypt, Lebanon, and also in Stuttgart, Germany with a network of branches and outlets to provide better and faster service to its clients around the world. Unitech is presently staffed with around 905 employees in total in its offices spread across the region.
“We have always been a customer-driven company with a corporate culture of professionalism and teamwork among our employees. As a declaration of our commitment to quality, we have implemented the quality management concept and are accredited to the ISO 9001:2000 quality management system. Our strength lies in our unique structure and management style by observance of high professional standards and fostering an entrepreneurial culture among staff,” he adds.
Apart from SFSP’s products, Unitech also supplies a variety of products to clients through a professional team of engineers and architects. These include raised access floorings, expansion joint covers, handrails and corner guards, speed bumps and bumper guards, entrance mats and rubber tiles, as well as fire-stop products.
In addition, it also sells products with the help of a highly skilled team of sales executives supported by technicians to advice clients on their job requirements. These include electrical power tools, cable ties, anchors and plugs, anchoring systems, cutting and grinding discs, diamond discs, industrial hand tools, thermal insulation boards, geotextiles, expansion joints sealants, uPVC (unplasticised polyvinyl chloride) electrical conduits, concrete tie rods and accessories, tile adhesives and grouts and mechanical cladding fixation products.
