A Chinese construction materials company is planning to spread its wings in the Gulf and Middle East with its maiden presence at the Big 5 in Dubai this month.

Al Zarka China Winds Group which currently has its Middle East office in Damascus, is taking part in the Big 5 as part of its efforts to expand its activities in the region.

"We plan to cover all Gulf and north African markets by 2004," says its Middle East office manager Waddah Zarka.

"We also intend to have branch offices in Dubai and Egypt."

Zarka says the regional market has been very promising for the company, adding the UAE could become its distribution hub for the Gulf area.

At the Big 5, Zarka said the company will be launching two new products, specifically targeting the Gulf and Middle East markets.

Al Zarka China Winds Group has a diversified portfolio of products which include steam bathrooms and Jacuzzis; water mixers and faucets; valves for buildings and water supply including ball, gate and check valves, among others; cast iron materials such as manhole covers, lighting poles and garden chairs; stone and marble tiles and slabs and decorative items; and bamboo flooring.

The products are made at its well-equipped facilities in China.

Zarka says the company will be specially focusing on high-end products such as a new computerised steam room cabinet and massage tub; latest designs of glass wash basins; modern mixers for bathrooms; marble and granite, and tiles and plumbing fixtures.

He says the medium-sized group is currently achieving 85 per cent of its business targets for its diverse range of products.
