Construction chemicals manufacturer Don Construction Products of the UK says its state-of-the-art waterproof decking system, Gripdeck, offers a cost-effective way to achieve durability while being attractive in appearance.

The company will be promoting the product at the Big 5 show in Dubai to create greater awareness of it in the Middle East.

Highlighting its successful application in the UK, Don Construction says Gripdeck was recently used on a multi-storey car-park serving pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline's new $459 million global headquarters in Brentford, West London.

Specified by RHWL Architects, Gripdeck was picked as the most cost-effective method of achieving all the technical requirements of wear and chemical resistance while providing an attractive appearance, the company says.

Concrete Repairs Limited (CRL), an approved Gripdeck applicator, carried out the installation which covered the six levels of the car-park, comprising some 15,000 sq m of space for 630 cars.

"Prior to the application of the Gripdeck system, to overcome a problem of residual moisture in the basement, an epoxy resin-based surface damp-proof membrane was used," says the company.

"Once cured, Gripdeck Primer was applied to the basement and intermediate decks followed by Gripdeck Wearcoat to form a durable and waterproof protective membrane. In areas prone to higher wear such as ramps and turning areas, a second coat of Wearcoat was applied to increase resistance.

"The roof deck and exposed areas of lower decks were waterproofed with an elastomeric system - Gripdeck Flexcoat. Light grey was selected as the finish throughout with Strongcoat Linemarker in safety yellow used to delineate parking bays.

"Gripdeck solvent-free polyurethane system will make a significant contribution to both the durability of the car-park structure by protecting it from the ingress of water and water-borne contaminants such as chlorides from de-icing salts as well as the long-life aesthetic improvements to the parking experience."

Don Construction will be promoting Gripdeck at the Big 5 show at Stand 6E295.
