AL BABTAIN Industries Company, based in Riyadh, plans to focus on exploring new markets worldwide for its products, given its increased production capacity. It also intends to enhance its product line while boosting its sales team to support the new range.

Al Babtain, a leading manufacturer of lighting poles and power transmission towers, has seen its business levels grow significantly in 1999 compared to 1998, says Engineer Ayman Al Saffan, regional sales manager.

"We anticipate good results for 2000 on the back of increased production capacity and exploration of new markets," he says.

The company's current product range includes:

  • Streetlighting poles and highmasts (up to 50 m);

  • Transmission poles and monopoles up to 132 kV;

  • Outdoor lighting units and LV (low-voltage) distribution panel boards;

  • Transmission and telecommunication steel lattice towers; and

  • Household appliances.

    On the company's performance in the Saudi market, Al Saffan says: "Since Al Babtain Industries has the first and the largest factory of its kind in the Kingdom, our share of the domestic construction market has remained fairly constant. However, the increase in oil prices has reflected positively on the volume of business in general."

    The company, established in 1956 in Riyadh, has branch offices in Jeddah, Dammam, Khamis Mushayit, Abha and Buraidah. It has a staff strength of about 2,500 and an annual turnover of approximately $60 million.

    The company is ISO 9001 certified by the British Standards Institution.

    Al Babtain Industries has recently opened a new tower and pole factory in Egypt for the manufacturing of steel lattice transmission towers, lighting poles and highmasts. Located in the 6th October Industrial area, the factory, known as Al Babtain Industries - Egypt, will help globalise the company's presence, says Al Saffan.

    It has agents and representatives in other GCC states, Lebanon, Jordan, Cyprus and Russia.

    Al Babtain Industries has supplied to a wide range of projects, both domestic and overseas. It is currently supplying 115 kV transmission monopoles to contractor NCC for a Saudi Consolidated Electric Company for the Eastern Province (Sceco-East) project under an order valued at $1.6 million;

    Other recently completed orders include supply of:
