The Kingdom is to build two railway lines linking the north and west of the Kingdom to the Arabian Gulf coast at a cost of $2.6 billion, said Abdullah Al Muqbel, undersecretary at the Transport Ministry. The project is expected to be financed by the private sector. Studies for the project have already been completed. The construction of the 1,480-km railway is expected to take five years to complete.

Meanwhile, around 200 Saudi businessmen recently met at the Chamber of Commerce building in Madinah to discuss the possibility of building a railway line linking Madinah with Makkah through Jeddah and Yanbu.
