The Dammam-based Zamil Steel recently had a major success in its push to enter the various European markets when it secured a contract to deliver a prefabricated steel building in Poland.

The contract, Zamil Steel's second building to Poland, was the largest to Europe since embarking on a sales campaign in the continent 15 months ago. In spite of its high engineering complexity, the 26,400 sq m building was dispatched from Dammam in a record time of four weeks only.

"It was a monumental challenge to all of us as we had to deliver the building at the job site in Poland in seven weeks," says Achraf Kassem, Zamil Steel's builder development manager, who was assigned as the project manager for this fast-track job.

"The building had to be engineered, manufactured, shipped to Jeddah over land, then shipped to Hamburg (Germany) on sea, then on land again to the outskirts of Warsaw (Poland). Our responsibility included the clearance of the building at the German - Polish borders which happened to occur during the Christmas vacations," he adds.

Erection of the 1,200-tonne building, which was also under the scope of Zamil Steel, was completed in less than 13 weeks. "Our subcontracted erectors did an outstanding job. In spite of the harsh cold weather and heavy snow falls, erection continued around the clock and the building was erected within the agreed time," adds Kassem.

The pre-engineered steel building is a multi-gable building that is 100 m wide and 264 m long. The building was designed to meet the Polish building code requirements and to withstand the heavy snow loads depicted by the code.

"Once again, we achieved our ultimate goal by adding another happy and satisfied customer to our list of clients," says Kassem.

Zamil Steel has sold its buildings in eight European countries since launching its marketing drive into Europe 15 months ago.
