Trial runs have begun at Alkhorayef Industries Company's pipe mill facility in Riyadh's Second Industrial City, to manufacture ERW (electric resistance welding) pipes to API 5L standard.
The plant, which has the capacity to produce 42,000 tonnes per year (tpy) of ERW pipes, is set to begin commercial production of pipes to API 5L standard this month (May), following an API audit. The mill currently produces ERW steel pipes to ASTM A53 and BS 1387 standards in various lengths and industrial specifications, in sizes from 2-1/2 inches up to 8 inches.
Alkhorayef has built a reputation since 1957 for being the supplier of one of the most reliable pipes and pumps on the Saudi market. ISO 9000-certified, the company has been manufacturing ERW steel pipes for 10 years, and its state-of-the-art production and testing facilities are Saudi Aramco-approved.
The new APL 5L production will add oil and gas to the list of applications for the company's pipes, which already includes water transportation, irrigation, column pipes for vertical pumps, well casings, poles, structural and other commercial and construction applications.
