Targeting key sectors such as the private construction and light fabrication industries, the Arabian Danish Paint Company (ADPC) has formed an ambitious expansion strategy aimed at doubling its turnover.
Fuelled by an average volume growth of 10 per cent per year, ADPC's markets continue to grow beyond the Kingdom. Today, ADPC products are exported to Kuwait, Bahrain, Yemen, and Syria. Countries such as the UAE, Egypt and Sudan form part of the company's expansion plan, says Ali Mansour, marketing coordinator.
ADPC, based in Riyadh's Second Industrial City, was established in 1976 as a Saudi-Danish joint venture. Production began in 1978 with an annual capacity of 10,000 tonnes. In 1991 ADPC became a 100 per cent Saudi-owned public limited company, manufacturing a full spectrum of paints including decorative, industrial, automotive and specialty coverings.
A fully-automated plant was launched in 1995 with a production capacity of 25,000 tonnes per year operating one shift. The new plant more than doubled the production capacity of the original plant.
"From the start, we realised that providing the highest level of quality and a level of technology only available to world-class companies was very important. This philosophy led to the cooperation with A S Dyrup Company and Akzo Nobel Industrial Coatings," says Mansour.
The company's products are designed to meet the local requirements. "Some of our products meet ASTM, BSI and DIN standards. Our firm also conforms to ISO 9001 quality standard," he says.
In March, the factory was awarded the King Abdulaziz Prize for the Best and Ideal Factory.
The products offered by ADPC come under the following brands:
"Developed entirely in Denmark, the Dyrup brand includes the highest quality solvent and water-based products. The high quality levels of the Dyrup brand offers the benefit of low lifetime cost," he says.
Early this year, ADPC launched a new range of specialist paints available in gold, silver and bronze quality under the Dyrup brand.
"The new Dyrup bronze range offers excellent protection and quality finish at an affordable price. The silver range offers a combination of quality and durability plus a wide range of benefits for any decorative need. The gold range offers the finest quality available in interior and exterior paints and comes with a host of unique benefits designed to deliver a long-lasting, premium finish every time," says Mansour.
Dyrup products have been approved and being applied by contractors for the Durrat Al-Arus project near Jeddah. "The beautiful resort, located 60 km north of Jeddah, is a good example of the best quality, beautiful colours and technical services from Dyrup Paints. We are proud that our products have been used in this project," says Mansour.
Other major projects using Dyrup paints include the just completed Al Faisaliah tower in Riyadh; the new headquarters for the Teachers College in Riyadh; the Immarat Al Qasim project in Buraidah; two sports cities in Dammam and Gizan; the National Guard headquarters in Dhahran; the Al Azizia Housing Project in Al Khobar; and several housing projects for Saudi Aramco.
"We are expecting that during the next two years the competition will be more and the winners will be those who study the customers' needs and automatically provide them with suitable services," he says.
