The Austrian pavilion at the Big 5 Show continues to grow in strength and will feature almost 40 Austrian companies this year from all sectors of the construction industry.
The number of companies participating in this show has grown year on year — from just 21 in 2002 to 35 last year.
“The Big 5 in Dubai is every year a major event for Austrian businesses, with Austria participating in this exhibition with a national pavilion for over a decade,” says Alexander Solar, commercial attaché of the Austrian Embassy in Abu Dhabi in the UAE.
He continues: “Austria is well-known for its outstanding construction and engineering expertise, with firms in these sectors providing tailor-made solutions and innovative technologies worldwide.
“Austrian firms have a long history in completing complex construction projects in the UAE and the other Gulf countries. They took part in the construction of the Dubai Creek in the UAE as well as the first bridge connecting Abu Dhabi to the mainland and are currently involved in many major projects including the Burj Dubai, the world’s tallest tower and the centrepiece of the Gulf most prestigious urban development to date.
“Leading Austrian companies such as Strabag and Doka are present in the Gulf while Unger Steel from eastern Austria has recently opened a new steel plant in Sharjah. The number of Austrian subsidiaries in the region is growing constantly. As a leading country in environmental technology, Austrian companies are contributing to most projects in this field including water and waste water treatment, waste management and renewable energy.
“Austrian exports to the UAE increased by almost 50 per cent last year, and are estimated to exceed €500 million ($710.17 million) this year. Construction products, machinery and equipment account for over 20 per cent or 90 million euros of the total Austrian exports to the UAE.”
