Big 5

Diversified and growing

TSSC projects ... Dragon Mart.

Technical Supplies & Services Company (TSSC), which is in the midst of a major expansion drive, will be using the Big 5 show to introduce its new RiverClack standing seam profile for special roof solutions on the regional market.

A mock-up sample of this new profile will be prominently displayed at its stand alongside an extensive selection of its diversified portfolio including various profiled roof and sandwich panels, single-skin cladding, prefabricated housing samples and its coldroom panel samples.
The Sharjah-based company has been a regular participant at the Big 5 show. Commenting on the show, Sajith V Nair, assistant manager, customer services, says: “Exhibiting for the show has been a truly beneficial experience. We have received a very good response to our stand and products each time we exhibited at the Big 5.  Every year, we have signed various contracts and made contacts with companies, which are now our regular clients, thanks to it.”
TSSC is part of the Harwal Group, which also encompasses group companies such as InterPlast, Cosmoplast, InterMetal, TechnoMec, Emirates Recycling, US Polymers and Glassalum.
Founded in 1961, TSSC is a leading manufacturer and supplier of a wide range of construction-related products to the UAE with a capability to offer a turnkey service right from design to completion. Its product portfolio includes profiled roof and wall claddings, decking panels, composite panels, Z-purlins, turnkey warehouses, ducting boards, PU (polyurethane) boards, walk-in coldrooms, large cold stores for hotels and vegetable markets, refrigerated trucks, prefabricated housing units, insulated portacabins, telecommunication shelters, uPVC (unplasticised polyvinyl chloride) doors and windows and GRP (glass-reinforced plastic) doors.  All these materials are supplied in knockdown form or erected on site by the company.
In addition, the firm also manufactures and supplies refrigerated display units (can coolers), plastic modular housing units, metal sheds and cable trays and operates a galvanising plant in Industrial Area 13 of Sharjah, for its in-house requirements as well as serving its regular clients.
TSSC claims to have the largest manufacturing capacity in the Gulf for profiled composite panels. Says Nair, “Presently, no other company in the region can beat our production capacity of profiled composite panels, which comprises TSP 35/205, TSP 40/200, TSP 45/150, TSP 45/250 and TSP 42/206 tile sandwich panels, ISO wall panels and also coldroom panels.”
Its production capacity of profiled sandwich panels stands at 15,000 sq m per day, while that for coldroom panels stands at 1,700 sq m per day.
TSSC boosted its manufacturing capacity last year by launching a new factory in Dubai Investment Park (DIP), adding to its three manufacturing units in the Sharjah Industrial Area and a joint venture partnership – TSSC Qatar in Doha Qatar – for cladding profiles.  The facility in DIP comprises an automatic laminator which produces 10,000 sq m of panels per day.
The company is now poised to expand even further into Russia, Qatar and Saudi Arabia, where new factories are currently being set up.
TSSC has had a successful year so far. Says Nair: “By the end of August, we had already achieved 75 per cent of our annual sales targets for this year. Our profit margins, however, this year are lower, mainly due to higher raw material prices and TSSC’s management decided not to pass on these increases to our clients as part of our commitment to customer satisfaction.”
With over a 1,100 employees, the company achieved a turnover of $110 million last year, up from $80 million in 2006.
Innovation is another area which TSSC focuses on and has a staff of highly-qualified and experienced engineers in its research and development department. Committed to develop new ideas and solutions, the company will shortly be introducing a new profile TSP 38/127 for special roof solutions.
The firm has supplied to various prestigious projects in the region. Among its major ongoing projects is the Dubai Industrial City, to which it is supplying approximately 1.5 million sq m of insulated sandwich panels.  Being built by Dubai Civil Engineering, Phases One and Two of the project have been completed while Phase Three is expected to start shortly.
TSSC has also bagged the Qatalum project in Qatar. It will supply approximately 700,000 sq m of aluminium panels to SNC Lavalin for the roof and wall of the new smelter factory under the project.
Among its completed projects is Delmonte Cold Stores, which has been operational for almost two years.
TSSC has authorised distributors all over the Middle East, India and Pakistan.
