The Air Movement and Control Association International (Amca) of the US will be displaying its certified ratings programme, and its standards and publications at its stand at the Big 5.
Amca is a non-profit international association of the world’s manufacturers of air related system equipment — primarily, fans, louvres, dampers, air curtains, airflow measurement stations, acoustic attenuators, and other air system components for the industrial, commercial, and residential markets.
The association’s mission is to promote the health and growth of the industries covered by its scope and of the members of the association in line with the interests of the public.
Its member companies in the Pacific Rim and Gulf region, who regularly attend the Big 5, have been behind Amca’s repeated representation at the show.
“We are particularly encouraged with the growing interest in Amca and its certified ratings programme for the HVAC (heating, ventilation and air-conditioning industries in the GCC,” says Marian Vambreck, director of membership, marketing and communications.
In fact, Amca’s membership has been continually growing internationally, primarily due to its certified ratings programme which provides the buyer, specifier and user of air system devices assurances that the manufacturers’ published performance data have been tested and verified. Amca’s certified rating programmes include performance ratings for fans, dampers, louvres, shutters, airflow measurement stations, acoustical duct silencers and air curtain units.
To cater to its growing international membership, it has recently licensed and accredited Singapore-based Afma Technologies (Afma) laboratory to test HVAC equipment to Amca air and sound standards. AFMA will be serving the Pacific Rim and Middle East region, as well as India.
Says a spokesperson for Afma: “Afma’s testing laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment to perform air and sound tests in accordance with Amca International’s test standards and comply with other international standards. The laboratory provides Afma the capability to act as third party for product certification and verification in the HVAC industry.”
With origins dating back to 1917, Amca was incorporated as a consolidate voice in 1955, with its headquarters at Arlington Heights, Illinois. It has a staff strength of 25 and a turnover of $3.5 million. Its state-of-the-art laboratories have over 50 years of experience in testing; promise a short turnaround time/ lean process facility. The A2LA / ISO 17025 accredited undertake testing in compliance with HVI 915, 916. As part of its customer service, the organization offers 24-hour web access to test status.
Apart for the certified ratings programme, its members stand to benefit from the engineering conference and technical seminars it conducts, access to marketing statistics and editorial exposure and advertising in its inmotion magazine.
With members in 28 countries across the globe, it is presently looking forward to another Amca-licensed and accredited laboratory opening in Seoul, South Korea, through the appointment of Korea Machinery-Meter and Petrochemical Testing and Research Institute (MPI). It is scheduled to open by the end of the year.
