Liquid Plastics, a UK-based pioneer of liquid-applied roofing systems, will exhibit its range of green roofs during its second participation at the Big 5 exhibition.
Throughout the show, Liquid Plastics will have an outdoor product demonstration area, while at its stand it will be exhibiting its full range of seamless roof systems, including its intensive and extensive green roofs. The company will also co-host an event called ‘Don’t Get Your Fingers Burnt’ in conjunction with the UK Institute of Fire Safety Managers during the show.
Elaborating on the benefits of its green roofs, Liquid Plastics’ group marketing director Phil Richardson comments: “Green roofs present a solution in the quest for sustainability, particularly in urban developments where the emphasis is on increasing biodiversity and quality of life. They can also provide many environmental and economic benefits including; enhancing the aesthetics of the building, utilising the roof space, aiding noise reduction, and potentially lowering air-conditioning costs. Liquid Plastics’ green roof systems are in demand around the world and have recently been installed on a designer retail outlet in New York City, and at Causeway Bay in Hong Kong.”
Since 1963, the company has produced an extensive range of high-performance, technologically-advanced coatings and membranes for the protection and waterproofing of roofs, walls and balconies, and for hygiene control. The demand for Liquid Plastics’ products stretches across the globe with international distributors in over 40 countries worldwide. As a member of the Iotech Group, the company has manufacturing facilities in the US, a sister company – Pentagon Plastics – in Belgium, and head office facilities in the UK.
Says Richardson, “Quality and innovation are just two of the characteristics replicated throughout Liquid Plastics – visible in its products, manufacturing processes and research and development (R&D). Our products are leaders in their fields because of their unique properties and ability to outlast and outperform traditional counterparts.”
“As the construction industry evolves towards safer applications and protection systems with design lives as long as the building itself, Liquid Plastics is leading the way with innovative products for the future.”
The company has become a world leader in waterproof roof membranes and further expanded this year with the creation of Liquid Plastics (FZCO) in the Dubai Airport Free Zone, and Liquid Plastics (Asia Pacific) in Hong Kong. The company now employs more than 300 people around the world, and continues to grow as it develops its presence on a global scale.
The Middle East region has been an important market for the firm. As Richardson points out: “Liquid Plastics has been active in the Middle East for several decades, and we have recently shown our full commitment to the area by establishing Liquid Plastics FZCO and providing further resources in terms of technical support and regional sales staff. This is the second time we have exhibited at the Big 5 show, and we anticipate another successful event.”
The company enjoyed an excellent response from the 2007 show, and as a result is currently working on securing several major projects from leads generated during the event.
“The Big 5 is clearly one of the most important exhibitions for the Middle East construction industry,” he continues. “It is a fantastic opportunity for us to demonstrate our full product range and this year we will be going one step further – we’re also co-hosting the event ‘Don’t Get Your Fingers Burnt’ in conjunction with the UK Institute of Fire Safety Managers, which aims to educate construction professionals on the risk of fire during the construction process, and what steps they can take to help avoid this.”
The ‘Don’t Get Your Fingers Burnt’ event is an exclusive opportunity for construction industry professionals to learn more about fire risks, and will take place on November 26 at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre. A representative from the Dubai Civil Defence will also be in attendance, as Liquid Plastics demonstrates to architects, contractors, and specifiers that there are alternative options to high-risk roof waterproofing methods such as hot bitumen and torch-applied felts, he points out.
Speaking on the significance of the event, Richardson says: “All buildings in the UAE must adhere to The Fire Protection Federal Law for 1991, with other international standards – such as those from the NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) – also being recognised. In order to conform, fire safety and protection measures should be considered at the design stage, where it is the responsibility of architects and developers to consider what safety measures to put in place and which fire-resistant building materials to use. In addition, it is important to give thought to the application methods of the chosen building materials, including the roof waterproofing systems. The aim of the ‘Don’t Get Your Fingers Burnt’ event is to highlight the importance of including fire-safe processes at the very early stages of design, and ensuring that only certified products are used during construction.”
In the Middle East, Liquid Plastics is currently working on a number of high-profile projects including Abu Dhabi airport where a protective roof membrane is being applied to the canopy roof, the VIP dome, and a satellite building.
The company will be located at Stand 2E54 at the Big 5 show.
