Belimo Automation, the Middle East subsidiary of Belimo, will be launching new products adhering to the green buildings code at the Big 5 show.
These include its fan optimiser for VAV (variable air volume) systems and pressure independent control valves for chilled water applications.
Its new Trade Selection range of products will also be showcased at the show, consisting of a range of low-cost two and three-way zone valves together with digital room temperature controllers suitable for fan coil units and VAV control systems.
Belimo is a renowned manufacturer and distributor of electric actuators for motorised control devices in heating, ventilating and air-conditioning systems since 1975.
“The company’s innovative, high-class technology ensures trouble-free operation for all kinds of HVAC control devices. This not only means greater comfort and convenience but also greater safety for property and the occupants of buildings,” says David Stevenson, general manager – Middle East, Belimo Automation.
2008 has been a very successful year for the Middle East subsidiary so far, having supplied numerous fire and smoke actuators for the prestigious Burj Dubai and Dubai Metro elevated stations.
“The first project in-line with the Green Buildings directive was commissioned by using the unique Belimo fan optimiser for a VAV system in Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), Dubai. The system will guarantee up to 50 per cent energy savings compared to a conventional system,” he says.
Belimo’s new range of control valves has also been supplied to such projects as Al Barari Villas, Oasis Shopping Mall, Al Majiz Tower, Millennium Hotel in Dubai and Park Rotana in Abu Dhabi, among many more.
In line with its strategy to develop new cost-effective products, Belimo has innovated a new, power-saving way to control fans in a VAV system, according to Stevenson. “Thanks to the new Belimo fan optimiser, COU24-A-MP, fans can in future be controlled based on demand according to the damper positions of the downstream VAV units. Supply pressure regulation – presently the standard method – can thus be dispensed with and fan energy consumption cut by as much as 50 per cent. Costs will thus be cut substantially and the convenience for users increased,” he explains.
In the same vein, Belimo’s latest valves, according to him, redefine technology standards. “The efficacy of the pressure-independent characterised control valve and the low-cost characterised control valves with its unique disc that guarantees an equal-percentage characteristic curve has been proven millions of times over in practical use.
“The latest Belimo models also handle applications with high temperatures and differential pressures without any problems. Like the shut-off valves, they are absolutely tight in the closed position and creeping energy losses on the system are reduced to a minimum.”
Belimo’s consistent range of butterfly valves is easy to fit, maintenance free and energy-saving, according to him. They cover nominal widths ranging between DN 25 and DN 350 with flow rates from 45 to 10,900 cu m/h. The D6..N butterfly valves can easily withstand extreme temperatures ranging between –20 deg C and +120 deg C (130 deg C per hour for brief periods) and feature a resistant epoxy coating and stainless valve disc.
Commenting on their other advantages, Stevenson says: “The tight-sealing shut-off valves also help prevent energy losses. Since pressure classes PN 6/10/16 is integrated in the flange dimensions, stock keeping is reduced. Levers or worm gears are available for manual operations and various electrical Belimo actuators can be selected for motorised opening and closing. It is easy to upgrade from manual lever to motorised actuator. The high level of material and production quality lends the D6..N butterfly valves a long service life – they will function reliably for many years without the need for any maintenance.”
The Monico fire protection monitoring system, a turnkey system solution for motorised fire dampers, is a future-oriented investment offering maximum safety at a good price and performance, according to him. The Monico system consists of a digital automation station with display for the control and monitoring of motorised fire dampers. Data is transmitted via the proven Belimo MP-Bus, while up to eight fire dampers can be connected to each automation station. The system can be flexibly extended with slave stations for larger objects.
The built-in time switch can be used for automatically initiating regular test functions, with important system parameters being logged automatically with the facility of being viewed at any time.
At the same time, Belimo’s Robust Line actuators are described as being ideal under extreme ambient conditions, ensuring corrosion-free and absolutely tight IP66/67 protection.
“In animal breeding as well as in indoor swimming pools, the agriculture and food industry or in roof installations – the Robust Line actuators from Belimo remain corrosion-resistant and absolutely tight under even the harshest of conditions. Clamps made of stainless and acid-resistant steel or form-fits made of high-quality aluminium ensure a perfect spindle driver – both for air control devices as well as for valves. The interior of the housing also provides room for the installation of components on the customer side, such as a relay or controller,” Stevenson points out.
The Belimo Middle East office and warehouse is located in the Dubai Airport Free Zone, where its full range of air and water products are held in stock, supported by a dedicated sales team offering comprehensive technical and after sales service. Seminar presentations on VAV, fire and smoke control, energy saving and many other subjects associated with its product range are available at either its free zone offices or at its customers’ own premises.
