As a regular participant at the Big 5 since the show’s inception, Cosmoplast Industrial Company returns to the Big 5 confident of making further inroads into the region’s booming market.

A primary member of the UAE-based Harwal Group, Cosmoplast is the largest thermoplastic pipe manufacturer in the Gulf region with an extensive product portfolio that comprises industrial and infrastructure development products, household items, outdoor products, iceboxes, coolers, commercial items, luggage, films and bags.
During the Big 5, the company will be exhibiting a wide range of products, which include:
• Infrastructural pipeline systems, comprising uPVC (unplasticised polyvinyl chloride), polyethylene (PE100, PE80  and linear low density polyethylene - LLDPE), glass reinforced plastic (GRP), GRP manholes and well casings and screens;
• Plumbing systems, consisting of uPVC for drainage and water supply, random polypropylene (PP-R), cross-linked polyethylene (PEX) for sanitary applications and plumbing accessories (compression fittings, pipe clamps, solvent cements, lubricants and cleaners);
• Pre-insulated pipes, comprising jacket/core combinations including HDPE (high-density polyethylene)-HDPE, HDPE-GRP, HDPE-steel, GRP-HDPE, GRP-GRP and GRP-steel;
• Irrigation systems, such as LLDPE, drip pipes, landscape edging and irrigation accessories;  and
• Reinforced thermoplastic pipes, for oil and gas applications that can stand up to 150 bar pressure at 60 deg C.
Cosmoplast has been a major participant at the Big 5 show, which has helped it reach prospective new customers from different parts of the world, and develop relationships with them, according to general manager Walid Najjar.
Established in 1976, with its head office in Sharjah, Cosmoplast has production facilities in Sharjah, Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The company, says Najjar, is presently on an expansion drive, with a new factory being set up in Dubai Investment Park and a further two new plants in Abu Dhabi. The company also has new facilities coming up in Saudi Arabia and Russia (Moscow and Kaliningrad).
Commenting on the company’s diverse and growing range of products, general manager, infrastructure pipeline systems, Dr Nasib Halaby says: “Cosmoplast pipeline systems are manufactured using a diverse range of plastic compounds such as uPVC, polyethylene (PE100, PE80 and LLDPE), PEX, PP-R, and GRP and in sizes ranging from 1/2-inch up to 1,200 mm in diameter and HDPE jackets up to 1,750 mm in diameter. The product range also includes pre-insulated pipes, reinforced thermoplastic pipes, specialised plumbing systems and fabricated uPVC and GRP manhole systems.
“Being an ISO 9001:2000 certified company with BSI-certified Kitemarks for most of our products, our quality assurance department makes sure that Cosmoplast pipeline systems are manufactured to international standards including, but not restricted to BS, DIN and ASTM.
“We are also diversifying our product range to provide a wider selection of products catering to the construction sector. One such development is the manufacture of geomembranes, which are used extensively in the construction industry. We are also introducing new manufacturing techniques for pre-insulated pipes to provide cost-effective solutions for the district cooling industry.
“Cosmoplast GRP pipes and fittings, which are manufactured using the filament winding technique, is a new addition to our diversified product portfolio. A dedicated state-of-the-art production and quality control facility ensures that the pipes are manufactured to international standards such as BS 5480, ASTM D 2996, ASTM D3232, AWWA C 950. The existing automated facility to manufacture pipes with diameters up to 1,500 mm and manholes up to 2000 mm is undergoing expansion to include even larger sizes.”
With this extensive product range, Cosmoplast’s pipeline systems can cater to a wide range of market sectors covering infrastructure development, plumbing, oil and gas, district cooling, irrigation, landscaping and water extraction.
Its expansion is being propelled by the growing demand for its products that cater to the UAE’s infrastructural developments and construction industry requirements. Says Najjar: “This year has been very good for our company. The construction boom in the UAE has reflected positively on our business as we are the largest pipe suppliers for the construction and infrastructure sectors. The demand for district cooling has driven the sales of our pre-insulated pipes that are made to the highest standards in our state-of-the-art production facilities.”
Cosmoplast has supplied its various pipes to a diverse range of projects in the UAE and across the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) region.
Its pre-insulated pipes have been used for the 235-km inter-refinery oil transportation pipeline project of Takreer, where pipes with polypropylene-coated steel core and 545 mm HDPE jacket were supplied to Dodsal. The project was completed in 2006.  Similarly, it is involved in the ongoing Sharjah Investment Centre project, where pre-insulated SDR17 pipes, with a HDPE jacket and HDPE core, in diameters ranging from 63 mm to 1,400 mm, are being supplied to Darwish Engineering.
Turning to its medium-density polyethylene (MDPE) gas pipes, Halaby says that Cosmoplast is presently working on the 24-km-long commercial gas distribution project at Al Sajaa development of Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (Sewa), for which yellow, 315 mm diameter, SDR11 pipes are being supplied to Lootah BC Gas. It is also supplying yellow MDPE pipes in diameters ranging from 25 mm to 400 mm for the 4-km-long pipeline to BC Gas for a major industrial gas distribution project in Tanzania.
Cosmoplast is currently supplying its HDPE water pipes to some major water distribution projects including the 6.8-km-long Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority (Adwea) water pipeline to Jazairat Al Hamra in Ras Al Khaimah where 630 mm diameter, SDR11, HDPE black pipe are supplied to Tecton Engineering and Construction. It is also supplying 630 mm diameter, HDPE SDR11 black pipes to Tecton Engineering for the 7.2-km-long pipeline for diversion of sewerage flow from MPS17 to ICAD, Mafraq, Abu Dhabi.
Meanwhile, its uPVC drainage pipes with diameters ranging from 100 mm to 400 mm are presently being supplied for the 100-km-long drainage pipeline for RAK Public Works. Its uPVC drainage pipes, in diameters ranging from 160 mm to 500 mm, will also be installed in the 15-km-long Sharjah Investment Centre drainage project by Darwish Engineering.
