Big 5 Preview

Kool choice

Market-leading rigid urethane and rigid phenolic insulation manufacturer Kingspan Insulation will be showcasing a selection of premium and high-performance insulation products for roofs, walls, floors and ductwork in the British pavilion at the Big 5 show.

High-performance insulation products, manufacturing excellence, first-class customer service and unrivalled expertise in meeting the demands of the market are just some of the many strengths that Kingspan Insulation offers to designers, engineers and contractors, according to Chris Guest, sales director of the UK-based company.
These products include the company’s proven KoolDuct as well as the Kooltherm range.
“The success of Kingspan KoolDuct has opened up new opportunities for our building fabric range of insulation products, in particular the Kingspan Kooltherm range, which we are looking forward to launching at what I consider to be the most significant construction event in the Middle East.
“After having exhibited last year, we have no doubt that the Big 5 is a truly international show providing an excellent medium to project our presence further into the marketplace, raise the profile of our product portfolio, generate new business and strengthen established relations,” says Guest.
Commenting on its technically-advanced KoolDuct system, Guest says: “The UL-listed Kingspan KoolDuct System, a clear leader in new generation pre-insulated ductwork, has already proved itself in the highly competitive global marketplace. With an impressive track record in all construction sectors, it has been used on many high profile and prestigious projects including Dubai hotels Shangri-La and Atlantis, The Palm, as well as Doha International Airport, IBM headquarters in Singapore and Iraq’s Basra Hospital.”
Kingspan’s KoolDuct range, fabricated from rigid phenolic insulation, weighs up to 85 per less than the traditional insulated steelwork equivalent and is capable of being installed up to three times faster than steel ductwork, reducing site time, contractor management and handling requirements, according to Jonathan Archer, national business development manager.
“At the same time, it does not require a separate lagging operation, which can look unsightly.  The aluminium facings present a streamlined, highly aesthetic appearance and are available in either silver or, for an alternative look, in black,” he says.
In addition to the Kingspan KoolDuct system, this year Kingspan will be exhibiting products from its Kooltherm range including Kingspan Kooltherm K10 Soffit Board for structural ceilings and floors, K15 Rainscreen Board for use behind rainscreen cladding systems and K5 External Wall Board for use behind traditional and lightweight polymer modified renders.
Another new highlight this year will be an example of a green roof insulated with Kingspan Thermaroof TR26 rigid urethane flat roof insulation.
“Rigid urethane insulation is extremely durable and will not suffer from reduced performance from factors such as repeated foot traffic or moisture ingress,” Guest points out.
“Green roof applications,” he continues, “are becoming increasingly popular the world over. They can help to retain storm water, clean the air, reduce dust and smog levels and can lessen the urban heat island effect in cities. They can increase the life expectancy of the roof and provide a heat shield in the summer. They can also provide a very effective barrier to noise, greatly enhancing acoustic performance. Last but not least, they can convert what would otherwise be dead space, into an area with immense recreational and educational possibilities.”
Kingspan Insulation is a division of Kingspan Group, one of Europe’s fastest growing building materials manufacturers.  Ireland-based Kingspan Group was formed in 1972 and is a publicly quoted group of companies with an annual turnover in excess of $2.6 billion.
With the rapid expansion of its manufacturing operations across Europe and distribution networks across the Middle East, Far East, Australia, New Zealand and North America, Kingspan Insulation is in a prime position to fulfil the increasing global demand for energy-efficient solutions with its range of high-end insulation products, which are among the most thermally efficient and technically advanced available, according to the company.
Kingspan Insulation’s extensive range of products has been used to insulate buildings in residential, commercial, institutional and industrial applications. Its products have proven to be particularly popular, according to the company, in high specification projects that require durable materials to perform in high humidity environments, as the closed cell structure of Kingspan’s products makes them highly resistant to water penetration. Furthermore, the Kingspan Kooltherm rigid phenolic insulation range has the lowest thermal conductivity (0.021 W/m·K) of any commonly available insulation material, enabling specified thermal performance standards to be achieved with the thinnest possible insulation.
Kingspan Insulation can be found at stand 2E70 in the British pavilion at the  Big 5 show.
