A wide choice of road barriers boasting advanced safety and noise-reduction properties will be offered at the Big 5 show by CAR Segnaletica Stradale, a leading Italian manufacturer that has carried out numerous projects both in its domestic and international markets.
The company will also be using the opportunity offered by the Big 5 platform to scout for qualified sales agents/resellers with proven experience in the sector, to enable it to penetrate the Gulf market.
An outstanding novelty amongst its various offerings at the show will be its Sicurmore 5M system, which is a 5-m-high barrier with a combination of safety and noise-proof features, including shock-containment for motorcycles.
“Sicurmore 5M has been developed to meet the most demanding road safety standards and is ideal for high-speed roads and highways. It enhances every technical feature developed to date, offering A3/B4 class outdoor sound-isolating and a H4 class level of shock absorbing features while being space-saving (just 46 cm),” says Enzo Rillo, managing director of the company.
The bridge barrier comprises vertically of a fixed and a detachable component. The fixed part, about 3 m high, combines the functions of both safety and noise barriers. The detachable component, about 2 m high, is an extension toward the top with sound-absorbing features, which can be also tipped up from the opposite side of the traffic, for inspection or maintenance purposes.
The system is made of a triple corrugated beam with specific spacers of a C-section, which is linked to the HEA160 posts that are spaced at 2,250 mm intervals and welded to the base with metallic sheets.
CAR’s other products for noise reduction on roads include “Integrata”, which has been created to meet roads regulations and specifications for sound barriers. This barrier combines ER 115 panels with the safety barrier. It consists of sound-absorption panels with the ability to add PMMA plates, which address the problems of space restrictions on viaducts and embankments. These barriers have been tested and are offered in H2, H3 and H4 class.
Another major product from CAR is “Combi”, which uses a road safety barrier combined with a net panel.
Established in 1985, CAR Segnaletica Stradale’s production plant is located on a 50,000 sq m area in Ponte, Italy and includes a highly automated galvanising plant, punching machines, welding robots, bending and cutting machines and a complete production line for soundproofing panels.
“We are able to meet any requirement, with our competent technical office and an efficient sales department that is always willing to give full support to customers,” says Rillo. “We lay a great emphasis on quality management, following the most relevant national and international standards including ANCCP EN ISO 9001:2000 and have Bureau Veritas quality certification.”
CAR manufactures various types of safety barriers. Its side barriers have been constructed and tested according to EN 1317 standards. These barriers retain the vehicle, preventing it from overturning and helping it to realign. To suit different various, the company has four different types of side barriers, meeting the specifications of the N2, H1, H2, H3 and H4 classes.
Its N2 side barriers, characterised by a medium retaining level and consisting of double corrugation beams, is used for less critical situations, where speeds are low and the impact is not devastating.
Its H1 side barrier is designed for moderate traffic, specially on major arterial roads, and on secondary roads out of town and main urban roads.
Similarly, its H2 side barrier is used on major and secondary roads out of town, and for motorways, where traffic is not particularly heavy. It is made with triple corrugation beams and is one of the most popular barriers, as it covers most road topologies.
The H3 barrier is suitable both on motorway and extra-urban embankments, even in case of intense heavy traffic. It also consists of triple corrugation beams.
The H4 class, which again consists of triple corrugation beams, is a highly-resistant barrier with the highest level of containment. It is used both on highways and urban roads subject to heavy traffic.
Safety barriers for bridges and viaducts are another important area for the company. This type of barrier retains heavy vehicles and is available in H2, H3 and H4 class.
Other road safety barriers include median barriers (also available to meet requirements of classes H2, H3 and H4), highway fences to prevent animals from crossing the highway or motorway, parapets for pedestrian protection, and netting fence protection for bridges.
The company has also executed special railway projects. These include an interior refurbishment of locomotives for Trenitalia (Italian Railways), manufacturing information signs for fixed/variable messages at rail stations, and anti-graffiti panels, lamp and advertising boards.
“CAR is a favourite among Italian companies, thanks to its prompt response to customer requests, flexible approach and its huge stock ensuring prompt delivery,” says Rillo.
Its customers include ANAS (Italian road maintenance agency), FS Trenitalia (Italian railways), Autostrade (highways services company), Impregilo and Astaldi (infrastructure and construction companies). It has also served prominent companies in the UK, Libya, Morocco, Nigeria, Latvia, Malta, Spain, Eastern Europe, the Balkans, and Sierra Leone.
