At the Big 5 show, Megaman, one of Europe’s top brands in novel lighting solutions, will be displaying its green, energy-efficient lighting solutions, including its reflector lamps in GU10 base.
Using a GU10 base, Megaman has transformed compact fluorescent technology into reflector lamps, in its own series of CFL GU10 with options of 7 W, 9 W and 11 W to replace halogens in 30 W, 40 W and 50 W respectively.
Relector lamps offer a number of aesthetic and practical advantages, according to Gladys Ho, a spokeswoman for Megaman.
“Reflector lamps can provide eminent illumination performance. Other than for general lighting, energy-saving reflector lamps can be incorporated into one’s choreographed lighting design, thus enhancing specific aspects of an interior decoration, and facilitating a comfortable and green living environment,” Ho says.
She continues: “Reflector lamps can deliver bright and soothing lighting effects and draw attention to specific areas by using the light and shadow contrasts, making them perfect for both general lighting and highlighting interiors. They are especially suitable for shops, restaurants or any other environment where intense lighting is required.”
Comparing them with traditional halogen lamps, she says: “Traditional halogen lamps give off a lot of heat. This not only raises the temperature indoors, but even damages the display items over time. The heat generated also means that they are energy-inefficient to use.
“In contrast, the Megaman CFL GU10 produces minimal heat which helps to save energy consumed by air-conditioning because the room temperature is not significantly raised by the heat of lighting. This also reduces the chance of discoloration and deformation of furniture and display items by intense light.”
“Megaman CFL GU10 is both energy saving and aesthetically pleasing, consuming 80 per cent less power while giving off exceptional light output. With its small dimension, it can fit into a wide variety of lighting fixtures, fulfilling different lighting needs.”
The fitting of an optional snap-in aluminium reflector on the Megaman CFL GU10, according to her, further increases the luminous intensity for highlighting an object, being ideal for ceiling fixtures and recessed downlights and a perfect and inexpensive solution to highlight areas for either a specific task or for producing certain effects, she points out.
Established in Germany since 1994, Megaman has an illustrative history when it comes to innovation in the lighting industry. As early as1996, Megaman took the lead in launching energy-saving lamps known as Classic series and Candle series, enhancing the choice on decorative lighting.
Following the invention of its CFL GU10 reflector in 2002, Megaman launched 21 different models of energy-saving reflectors. Later, in 2004, Cat’s Eye was added to its product family. This product releases a soft afterglow when light is out, making it suitable for locations where power shortage is frequent. In 2005, Megaman made a remarkable breakthrough in compact fluorescent lighting technology when it launched the first dimmable energy saving lamp, DorS Dimming, which can be dimmed with a conventional light switch. Better yet, last year, the Dimmerable series which enables smooth dimming with a normal dimmer switch, was launched, further boosting the energy-saving lamp portfolio.
“Throughout the years, Megaman has strived to develop new technology and revolutionise its product design. We have more than 400 products and new products launched every year, demonstrating our dedication in providing the best lighting solution to consumers, making Megaman a favourite brand,” Ho says.
Megaman products are widely distributed throughout the world, including Europe, Asia-Pacific, Middle East, South Africa, and North America, covering more than 80 countries worldwide.
