Going coconuts

Natural charm ... the new range.

Chengdu Zaijian Decorating Materials Company, a major Chinese manufacturer of mosaic tiles, will be launching an innovative product at the Big 5 show: a “coconut mosaic” known as Tropical Life.

Marketed under the Zaijian Mosaic banner, now a popular brand in the Gulf, the product was launched by the company last year.
“Coconut mosaic brings the natural charm of tropical life to the home,” says Morpheus Chen, a spokesperson for the company. “Using natural coconut shell as the main material, coconut mosaic brings the feel and romance of tropical life, its simplicity and natural beauty, while allowing you to enjoy its warm comfort within modern building interiors.”
Natural coconut shell has been used in combination with marble mosaic in the production of this tile series, in an attempt to combine the spirit of simple tropical life with contemporary design trends in mosaic tiles for urban homes and offices. Also available as medallions, the tiles have an enhanced appeal, thanks to the raw texture of the coconut precisely cut into medallions and bordered with traditional stone.
“With a textured surface that alternates brown and white colours and the sophisticated surface finish of every single chip, these mosaic tiles create an ambiance of pure nature within a closed room,” says Chen.
Established in 1993 in Chengdu (Sichuan) China, Chengdu Zaijian specialises in a wide range of European and American-style marble mosaic, high-quality art glass mosaic, luxury metal mosaic and different kinds of natural stone material. Its mosaic products are exported to more than 75 countries through the support of more than 200 distributors around the world. It has a staff strength of 1,000 and a turnover of $12 million.
“Zaijian Mosaic has gained a reputation worldwide for its outstanding quality and committed services as well as its innovative mosaic concepts and trend-setting ideas,” Chen adds.
A past participant at the previous Big 5 shows, the company aims at introducing a new product to the market each year. “We want to play a leading role in the interiors segment, and are presently in the process of developing another new product,” says Chen.
A 100 per cent export-oriented firm, Zaijian’s export value was affected last year due to the rise in value of the country’s currency (RMB), though it has been able to maintain its sales at past year levels.
The company’s participation at previous shows, according to Chen, has helped it to strengthen its presence in the Gulf, where it has supplied to projects such as the Emirates Towers hotel, The Palm island, and the Dubai National Bank in Dubai; and a ladies salon in Riyadh and a minister’s villa in Saudi Arabia.
Chengdu Zaijian has an extensive project portfolio that spans the globe. Its major projects worldwide include the InterContinental Hotel in Chicago, Art Street in Houston, and Donald Trump’s casino in Atlantic City, all in the US; Disneyland, Siguma Sports Centre and La Boheme Minato-Ku in Japan; Beijing Holiday Inn and Chengdu Jinjiang Hotel in China; the lobby of luxury pleasure-boat in Switzerland; and the Ireland Dublin Night Club. Chengdu Zaijian will be present at Stand No D463 at Rashid Hall.
