The Big 5 Show

Sticky business

GMES’ stand at last year’s show.

UAE-based Gulf Mechanical Engineers and Suppliers (GMES), one of the leading suppliers of building material and maintenance related products to oilfield, marine, construction and general industries, will exhibit some of its more popular products at this year’s Big 5 show.

Among the products that will be at the company’s stand are the WD-40 and a range of adhesives from leading manufacturer Bison International.
Elaborating on the products, a spokesman for the company says: “The WD-40 is a problem-solver that combines the function of many conventional products – it stops squeaks, drives out moisture, cleans and protects, loosens rusted parts and frees sticky mechanisms.
“The material has got a wide range of applications in the regional markets,” the spokesman points out.
WD-40, available in 100, 200 and 400 ml aerosols and five-litre bulk packing, has many uses – around the house, vehicles, workshops, industries, aircraft and space research – “and is endorsed by millions of satisfied customers all over the world,” says the spokesman.
Developed in the course of space research, WD-40 combines the functions of many conventional products and outperforms conventional light lubricants, penetrating oils, rust preventives, moisture repellents, metal cleaners, silicone sprays and many more.
GMES will also be presenting Bison International’s range of adhesives suitable for building, repairs, fastening and decoration. Some of the products from Bison on show include: Bison Kit (the contact adhesive); Montage Kit (the construction adhesive), Timber Max (the marine adhesive) and construction foam.
“Users are interested in minimising the risks involved in building, repairing, fastening or decorating,” he says.
GMES distributes the reliable Bison Kit Contact Adhesives all over the UAE. “We also market the innovative Montage Kit, which can be used to bond almost any construction surface. GMES has now introduced Bison Foam and Timber Max in the UAE market,” he points out.
Established in 1969, GMES – a branch of Al Hathboor Group of companies – is a leading supplier of products and services to oilfields, general industries and ship stores. The company specialises in maintenance-related products and activities.
“Our conveniently located showrooms at Dubai and Abu Dhabi offer the full range of products and services,” says the spokesman.

Services
Trained personnel from the company offer a wide range of services ranging from providing assistance for conducting application studies to offering technical recommendations and conduct failure analysis – all of which definitely make the job simpler for the maintenance engineers, says the spokesman.
“In addition, all our showrooms are adequately stocked to help achieve quick deliveries. Stocks are regularly replenished using sophisticated inventory management systems,” he adds.
GMES deals in a vast range of products for a variety of applications that include:
• SKF: A world leader in the rolling bearing industry, in addition to bearings, SKF manufactures seals, maintenance tools, lubricants, housing and condition monitoring equipment while providing training as well as a range of engineering services. GMES has stocks of more than 1,200 sizes/types of bearings.
In association with SKF, GMES has been working towards optimising plant asset efficiency and maintenance through mechanical services, preventive maintenance, condition monitoring and systems for decision support of maintenance work
• Henkel: GMES is the exclusive distributor for Henkel’s Loctite range of products. After the take-over of Loctite Corporation in 1997, Henkel is considered the largest producer of adhesives in the world.
“The Loctite range of speciality, high-technology products is probably the most useful tool a production engineer can have to combat downtime. In the fight to prevent lost production, delays and upset schedules, these advanced adhesives, sealants, lubricants and cleaners can provide the “spares” needed to make immediate repairs. Advancing the art of proactive maintenance, Loctite products will help provide the solution to prevent predictable and unpredictable failures,” he explains.
“With the Loctite range, users can securely lock any threaded fastener or fitting against vibration and shock loads; retain bearings, bushes and cylindrical parts into housings or onto shafts – even if they are worn. Customers can also instantly replace gaskets; permanently join dissimilar materials rapidly without mechanical aid; clean and lubricate,” he adds.
• Crosby: The company’s range covers blocks and fittings for wire ropes and chains, which meet the needs and high quality standards of the lifting industry.
• American Block Manufacturing Company (Abco): The company produces a full range of drilling flow line products that include hammer unions, circulating hoses, swivel joints, integral fittings and integral pup joints. These products are manufactured using modern techniques to obtain the highest quality standards required by the industry. GMES distributes most of these ranges from stock and non-stock items can be ordered with short delivery, he explains.
Keeping up efforts to improve safety and remain cost-effective, GMES organises regular seminars and training sessions, which benefit the customers in implementing the best engineering practices in their respective fields. Some of the regularly conducted and widely-acclaimed seminars include the topics: Adhesive technology (Loctite); Fundamentals of bearing technology; fundamentals of Machine condition Monitoring; Bearing Maintenance and Service (all by SKF); and improving safety in the lifting industry (Crosby). In addition, GMES also offers customised seminars on many other topics, if a minimum number of participants are available, at customer’s premises.
With its fleet of delivery vans and trucks, GMES also ensures free (for reasonable order sizes) and prompt delivery (generally within 24 hours). Emergency deliveries are also offered, the spokesman concludes.
