The next major transformation for Al Maryah Island was set in motion late last month when Mubadala Investment Company (Mubadala) officially broke ground on the Al Maryah Waterfront enhancement project. This significant development is designed curate an exceptional new realm of lifestyle and experiences that will elevate the island’s status and solidify Abu Dhabi’s reputation as a premier global destination.
This ambitious endeavour promises to weave together cutting-edge technology, stunning design, and vibrant public spaces to create an unparalleled urban experience.
At the heart of the transformation will be a breathtaking 30-m-tall luminous sphere, seemingly suspended in water within the bay. This centrepiece will be encircled by over 1,000 AI-powered water jets, capable of soaring more than 75 m skyward in a dazzling, synchronised choreography set to original music by acclaimed composer Ramin Djawadi. These captivating features are the brainchild of WET, the world-renowned water design firm behind some of the globe’s most iconic aquatic spectacles.
Beyond this visual marvel, the development will also introduce:
• An extended sea boardwalk, offering enhanced access to the water’s edge;
• An innovative shaded outdoor cooling system, ensuring comfort year-round.
• Dedicated new F&B zones and versatile, event-ready public spaces.
Once complete, the Al Maryah Waterfront is envisioned as a dynamic hub for public life. It is designed not only to draw international visitors and bolster the capital’s tourism ambitions but also to provide opportunities for leisure, cultural engagement, and commercial activity.
