The first phase of the Global City Dammam project has now been completed.

The Eastern Province Mayoralty, in partnership with Thailand’s Vega Intertrade & Exhibitions, has recently completed the first phase of the Global City Dammam project, a flagship cultural, entertainment, and commercial destination that forms part of Saudi Vision 2030’s tourism and quality-of-life initiatives.

Spanning nearly 800,000 sq m between Dammam and Qatif, the development is designed to create a multicultural landmark on the Arabian Gulf coast.

According to Faisal Al-Zahrani, spokesman for the Eastern Province Mayoralty, the first phase – which cost around SAR200 million ($53 million) – includes 16 international pavilions, an open-air theatre seating 10,000 people, a floating restaurant, and interactive entertainment areas such as an electronic gaming zone, carnival rides and water attractions.

MULTIPHASE MASTER PLAN

The estimated SAR650-million Global City development will progress through three major phases. With Phase One completed, Phase Two will expand the festival zone and introduce a major water park featuring slides, wave pools, and family attractions.

Phase Three will establish the Global Arena, a world-class expo and performance complex, alongside a residential neighbourhood offering modern, sustainable housing and community hubs for residents and long-term visitors.

A signature feature of Global City is a 240,000-sq-m artificial lake.

A signature feature of Global City is a 240,000-sq-m artificial lake, the largest in the Eastern Province, surrounded by international restaurants, event spaces, and landscaped walkways. The site’s design integrates modern architecture with global culture, incorporating districts such as China Town, Indian Gully and a Thai-style floating food market offering Asian street cuisine.

Developers say nightly light shows, themed festivals, and interactive experiences will make Global City a “living gallery of world cultures” and a major leisure destination for families across the GCC.

The project is expected to generate hundreds of jobs across construction, operations, management, and hospitality sectors. Local businesses will also benefit from the anticipated surge in tourism spending.

Regional planners view Global City as instrumental in transforming Dammam into a hub for culture, tourism, and innovation. “This project provides sustainable economic value while reinforcing the Eastern Province’s position as a key contributor to the kingdom’s tourism future,” said a statement from the Mayoralty.

STRATEGIC LOCATION AND INVESTOR APPEAL

Situated near Abu Hadriyah Road between Dammam and Qatif, the site offers quick access to regional transport links, including King Fahd International Airport and Dammam Port. The city’s proximity to Bahrain, Kuwait, and Qatar gives it strong cross-border tourism potential.

Vega Intertrade & Exhibitions, which has over 20 years of experience in organising international fairs and cultural events, leads the investment partnership. The company describes the project as “a unique model for global cultural exchange that aligns with Vision 2030’s goals for sustainable tourism and lifestyle improvement.”

When complete, Global City Dammam is expected to become one of the Eastern Province’s defining landmarks _ blending culture, entertainment, and commerce in an environment that celebrates global diversity while showcasing modern Saudi Arabia’s ambitions.
