Kuwait's Ministry of Electricity and Water and Renewable Energy has announced the awarding of contracts worth KD106 million ($346 million) for two major power projects.
The contract for Al Shaqaya Solar Power Generation Station 400 kV Overhead Transmission Line (OHTL) project, valued at KD48.6 million, was sealed with Power Grid Company.
The project aims to link the Al Shaqaya solar power station to the main substation in Al Wafra (Z) through the installation of a 400 kV OHTL.
The Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) has developed the innovative Shagaya Renewable Energy Project, which constitutes the first phase of an ambitious masterplan to generate 3.2GW of electricity using renewable sources by 2030.
The other key power infrastructure project, linked to the Al Khairan plant, has been awarded to Kuwait-based Heavy Engineering Industries & Shipbuilding Company (Heisco).
A major EPC contracting company based in Kuwait, Heisco caters to a range of business in energy, petrochemicals and power sectors.
Under the contract, Heisco will be responsible for the supply, execution, commissioning and maintenance services for these transmission lines.
