Zamil Air Conditioners (ZAC), a leading Middle East and international manufacturer of air-conditioning systems, was recently honoured by Sanyo for reaching a milestone of one million compressor purchases over a six-year period, during which Sanyo provided exclusive sourcing.
The successful, strategic Middle East partnership of the two businesses began in 1998, with ZAC supplying branded air-conditioners to Sanyo’s operations in the Gulf and Africa.
Sanyo compressor production began in 1970. Its current capacity is reported at 11.5 million units manufactured at four locations, with an estimated market share of 17 per cent worldwide.
Dammam-headquartered ZAC selected Sanyo compressors for use in the development of the company’s new super-quiet products and pioneered the use of tropicalised rotary compressors in the region. Sanyo engineers worked closely with Zamil design engineers to qualify Sanyo’s compressors to meet the stringent technical requirements of ZAC on performance, sound level and reliability tests. The two companies are currently exploring the possibilities of expanding the relationship to leverage Zamil’s expertise in the manufacturing of mini-split and packaged air-conditioners for the Middle East market under OEM (original equipment manufacturing) license agreement.
ZAC, a business unit of Zamil Industrial Investment Company (ZIIC) and the leading Middle East and international manufacturer of air conditioning systems, has achieved important successes in the regional and global market, through a number of prestigious orders both from the domestic and export markets.
Its most recent orders have come from Sudan where the company has clinched two prestigious projects with a combined value of SR8 million ($2.2 million). The first project includes the supply and installation of three chillers, using the environmentally-friendly refrigerant R-134A and providing 840 tonnes of refrigeration (TR) capacity, as well as a number of double-skin air-handling units and fan coil units of different sizes and models. The units will be installed at Marwe Airport, a state-of-the-art international airport in north Sudan featuring expanded runways that support larger aircraft. These particular units will provide total cooling solutions for both the main airport hall and the air traffic control tower.
ZAC will also supply and install a number of mini-split systems to other airport-related facilities, including the cargo and administrative buildings. Delivery has already begun and is expected to be completed by July.
“This prestigious project is the latest on our rapidly growing list of successful endeavours in the region. ZAC won this project despite strong competition from major air conditioning brands in the market, and will provide complete air-conditioning design for the entire project. This includes the HVAC ducting layout, exhaust and ventilation systems, as well as the air distribution system,” says ZAC executive vice president Osama Bunyan.
The second contract requires the supply of three chillers – each of 220 TR cooling capacity and using environmentally-friendly refrigerants, 14 double-skin air handling units, and 17 fan coil units in addition to other cooling equipment and related accessories for the first phase of The Future University, a modern university that consists of six zones and is located in the heart of Khartoum, Sudan.
“ZAC highly specialised air-conditioning solution applications have been delivered to major universities and learning institutions in the GCC and globally. Our design and manufacturing capabilities enable us to meet the most stringent project specifications,” adds Bunyan.
ZAC has also recently launched its “Cooline from Zamil” brand in Yemen.
Founded in 1974 as one of the first air-conditioning businesses in Saudi Arabia, ZAC designs, manufactures, tests, markets and services a comprehensive range of air-conditioning products.
