Living up to its reputation as a trendsetter in the region for decorative surfacing materials, Modern Décor and Wood Products Manufacturing Company (Modecor) has recently launched a number of innovative products – some of which are the “firsts” for the Gulf.
Its most recent launch is the Parqé laminate flooring while a “first” for the region is its thin post-formable laminates.
Located at Al Jubail Industrial City in Saudi Arabia, the company has already established a presence in Europe, Egypt and has set up a base in the UAE.
Modecor claims to have the most modern, integrated laminate manufacturing facility in the Middle East that is equipped for the manufacture of decorative laminates (HPL), edge bands, thermo-fused melamine-faced chipboards (MFC), thermo-fused melamine-faced medium-density fibreboards (MDF) and laminate flooring.
Modecor began commercial production in January, 2004 using state-of-the-art fully-automated German machinery and technology.
“Quality and customer satisfaction have been the priorities at Modecor,” says a spokesman for the company. “Since its inception, Modecor has achieved and maintained ISO 9000-2000 certification, indicating the strong commitment of the company towards quality and customer satisfaction. It is also committed to utilising the best raw materials and implements rigorous quality checks at various production stages in order to ensure that only the best quality products are produced. Accordingly, all products meet international standards like EN 438 and others like ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials).”
For the first time in the region, Modecor is producing Modeflex post-formable laminates as thin as 0.16 mm in rolls using the latest CPL (continuously pressed laminate) technology. Also post-formable laminates in thicknesses varying from 0.4 to 0.8 mm. and non-post formable laminates in thicknesses varying from 0.4 to 1.2 mm are available in a colour range of more than 100 contemporary and modern colours and designs. An additional surface protection of Modeshield is available to enhance the scratch and wear-resistant properties for special usage, the spokesman points out.
The most recent addition to the production range – Parqé laminate flooring – is made of 8 mm thick HDF (high-density fibre) boards with an abrasion resistance level of Class 23/31 (AC3) as well as 23/32 (AC4), says the spokesman. Parqé is available in range of around 20 different colours, designs and textures, satisfying the current trends.
Its current product range includes ready-to-use Modepan, thermo-fused melamine-faced panels on either MDF or particleboard in standard sizes of 1,220 by 2,440 mm and in thicknesses from 3 to 38 mm, which meets the needs of the interior and architectural segments as well as the furniture industry for all types of office and home furniture.
Modecor also manufactures melamine edge banding in pre-glued and unglued variants. Modeedge is a flexible and tough material suitable for finishing the exposed edges and completes the details perfectly.
In parallel to the introduction of Parqé, a new company showroom is now open in King Abdul-Aziz Street in Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia.
“The showroom aims to provide customers, specifically consumers and end-users with the best possible service in terms of colour selection and installation support,” says the spokesman. “The showroom offers a warm ‘ambiance’ through the fusion of Parqé colours and designs, together with the furnishings used. The showroom is also an inspiring stop for specifiers, architects and interior designers who can also obtain detailed information about all Modecor products.”
In addition, Parqé is also being sold through about 26 different retail outlets across the Middle East in Dubai, Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan, Syria and Egypt, as well as Saudi Arabia.
To focus better on the European laminates market, Modekor Europe, a European company owned by Modecor was established in Rothenburg, Germany with the objective of marketing and selling Modecor’s laminates and edge bands to European customers. The company has its own sales and customer service organisation as well as a warehouse with a stock of the Modecor range of colours and designs.
Modecor Saudi Arabia produces and ships to Modekor Europe, which in turn sells in the European markets. Customers in Germany, Italy, Denmark, the UK, Ireland, Belgium, Netherlands and other countries have already been established.
In addition, Modecor has also secured customers in Russia, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. These are serviced directly by the team in Saudi Arabia and laminates are shipped to these countries.
Realising the importance of the Egyptian market, Modecor has also set up a branch office in Cairo to handle the inquiries and to provide support to customers in Egypt.
As part of its ongoing expansion plans, Modecor has recently established a new warehouse in Dubai, UAE, with the objective of providing better and faster service to its customers across the UAE. The warehouse is located at the Dubai Investments Park facilities, with easy access to the road network leading to the various emirates, namely Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah. The warehouse will store fast-moving products and colours to ensure a fast response time to customer needs. Modecor offices in Dubai are also located at the same location.
