Alfanar Construction Company, a leading Saudi engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) company, has recently been awarded contracts worth more than SR700 million ($186.7 million) by Saudi Electric Company (SEC) for various projects in the Central and Eastern provinces of the kingdom.

The contracts entail the construction of one new extra high-voltage (EHV) substation and expansion of another existing EHV substation, four contracts for the construction of new high-voltage 115/11 3.8 kV substations and expansion of another two existing HV substations. The remaining two contracts are for transmission line projects.
The scope of these projects includes the complete EPC works for substations, overhead transmission lines installation, testing and commissioning of hi tech control and protection, telecommunication and data acquisition systems, and all associated instrumentation, electromechanical and civil works.
Since its inception in 1978, Alfanar Construction Company has grown from strength to strength. The company, a subsidiary of Alfanar Group of Companies, has its headquarters in Riyadh and branches in some of the major cities of Saudi Arabia and GCC countries.
Alfanar Construction Company specialises in the execution of turnkey projects of various magnitudes related to electrical power generation, transmission and distribution. According to a company spokesman, Alfanar’s strengths lie in its in-house designing, procurement, project execution and testing and commissioning capabilities. “During its three decades of existence, Alfanar has added several ancillary units to help cut down on its dependence on outside subcontractors,” the spokesman points out. “As a result of this prudent move by its management, Alfanar has grown into a full fledged entity that comprises several support units that undertake jobs related to designing, technical services, civil, electrical, mechanical, fabrication as well as Scada (supervisory control and data acquisition)-telecommunications.”
These ancillary units not only execute works an projects awarded to their parent company but undertake projects related to their areas of expertise and execute them independently.
Other ongoing projects include the enhancement work for telecommunication systems supporting the energy transmission network in the Central Province, reinforcement of a 380/110/13.8 kV substation in Makkah, provision of engineering and design, supply, installation, testing and commissioning services for two new 110/13.8 kV substations, also in Makkah, extension of the 110/13.8 kV Shafa substation in the Western Province and construction of a new 115 kV substation and installation of a 1.5 km transmission line in Juaymah Area in the Eastern Province.
