Elumatec, considered to be the world’s biggest profile machinery manufacturer, is displaying its latest products at the German pavilion, which is one of the largest ones at the Big 5 exhibition.
“We will be displaying our new series of the versatile SBZ machines, including the CNC machines used for aluminum and uPVC profile cutting,” says a spokesman of the firm.
One of them will be the classic SBZ 130, a fully-automatic profile machining centre that is used for drilling, milling and taping. Since the launch of the machine 10 years ago, it has quickly found favour in the industry with more than 500 models having been sold globally, making it one of the top-selling machining centres for aluminium and steel profile processing.
The SBZ is suitable for efficient window, door and curtain-wall production as well as for a number of industrial uses with very short change-over times and the capability to process from five sides.
“Thanks to the continuous development, the SBZ 130 today represents a mature as well as a highly modern machine which is of utmost importance for flexible profile processing. Already, the basic design has been aligned to a maximum of stability, precision and long life. The concept of the machine base is a welded double tube frame that reduces vibrations during processing, ensuring that inaccuracies are kept to a minimum,” explains the technical sales director, Harald Burger.
The extremely solid design also enables processing of steel profiles, which expands application possibilities significantly, especially for industrial profile processing. This machine is not only used for classic applications like window, curtain wall or conservatory production but also in production lines for manufacturing parts for the automotive industry or other industrial profile parts.
The SBZ 130 is controlled by an electronic four-axis control based on an industrial PC, with optimum operator guidance and network connection provided by a 12-inch colour monitor as well as serial and parallel interfaces, diskette drive, barcode scanner and label printer.
The working length of the table can range between 4.200 and 11.500 mm. “Utmost precision at short working cycles can be achieved by the robust and abrasion-proof direct drive which obtains at the X-axis a positioning speed up to 60 m/min,” he says. “Thanks to the standard tool changer for eight tools, the changeover time can be reduced to 1.2 seconds. All operations such as routing, drilling and tapping are carried out with the profile bar resting. This avoids damage to the workpiece surface when feeding the profile.”
Minimisation of errors and optimisation of safety are important factors of this concept. To prevent a breakdown, the SBZ is equipped as standard with a clamping recognition or can be fitted with an optional automatic clamping positioning system. The graphical operator guidance helps in the programming and detection of errors which can then be corrected in time, says Burger.
“With these features, we combine a maximum of safety with high efficiency in production and top quality of the processed product,” he adds.
