Speedlane 900 ... for passenger-intensive areas.

Netherlands-based Boon-Edam – the company which prides itself as being the first name in entrance technology – has redefined the concept of security in passenger-intensive areas with the launch of its innovative Speedlane 900 security barriers.

With the increased investment being made on security perimeter systems at passenger terminals, the company has successfully installed its systems at some of the leading ship terminals across the globe.
The presence of Boon Edam’s products at airports and ports around the world bear testimony to the company’s success in meeting the challenges of this increasingly sensitive area in the field of security access, says a company spokesman.
“With the introduction of the International Ship and Port Facility (ISPS) code, new regulations for passenger terminals have come into force to detect and deter threats to port terminals,” says the spokesman. “The automatic registration and streamlining of passengers in ship terminals has been one of the reactions to the ISPS at several terminals in Sweden and Finland (Silja Line Stockholm, Silja Line Helsingfors and Silja Line Turku).”
“Formerly, passenger flows in the wide terminal corridors were not orderly and passengers were not controlled when boarding or going ashore. Speedlane security barriers, with 1.8-m-high door wings, have been installed in the large waiting halls, replacing the expensive manual check by security staff employed by Silja line. The high and wide version, Speedlane 900, creates a barrier for the entrance to customs and enables close monitoring by closed circuit surveillance cameras.”
The new Speedlane range is Boon Edam’s solution to the increasing demands of stringent border control and the aim of simplifying passenger travel using automated ticket processing. The Speedlane has also proved its functionality in combination with iris-scan authorisation at Athens airport, he adds.
“We can rightly say Boon Edam to be ‘the first name in entrance technology,’’ says the spokesman. “Thousands of people pass through our doors all over the world. There is no other major international group with Boon Edam’s long-standing experience in the field of revolving doors and security doors.”
The company, which was started back in 1873 as a carpentry specialist, has grown to become an international market leader with a turnover in excess of euro 73 million and employs more than 600 employees.
“We have used our years of experience to develop a wide range of door products, that can be customised to almost every building entrance requirement,” he says.
“With help from sophisticated computer programs, the company can advise on exactly how many people will pass through various types of doors per given unit of time, or how energy-efficient one type of door is compared with another type,” he says.
“With an unremitting policy of selecting and using materials of the highest quality, we have consciously made the choices that ensure we can offer products with guaranteed safety and reliability of operation, year in, year out,” he concludes.
