Reem Developers has awarded China Harbour Engineering a Dh201 million ($54.74 million) contract for its Najmat Abu Dhabi on Reem Island.
The contract, involving the development of three marinas and a grand canal, was awarded after a diligent scrutiny of 10 pre-qualified competitive bids from local and international companies, says a spokesman for the developer. The contract also forms a significant component of the overall project infrastructure development outlay.
Commenting on the award, Abdulhamid Saeed, managing director of Reem Investments, said: “The tender for the development of the three marinas evoked huge response from global firms, which is a significant reflection of the interest generated by the project as well as the enthusiasm to participate in the dynamic real estate developments of Abu Dhabi, which is quickly becoming one of the leading destinations for real estate investments and Najmat Abu Dhabi is one of the salient projects that is leading this interest.”
Najmat Abu Dhabi marine works have been designed by Halcrow International in association with Hyder Consulting. Spread across 16 million sq ft, Najmat – the Star of Abu Dhabi – is an iconic project on Reem Island, which is 300 m off the north-eastern coast of the federal capital.
The three marinas – Bay Centre Marina (250 m diameter), Residential Marina (200 m diameter) and Resort Marina (180 m diameter) – are strategic to the aesthetic layout of the project.
