Dammam-based Al Mohsin Trading and Fiberglass Establishment – one of the region’s leading manufacturers of high-quality fiberglass, acrylic and granite products – is aggressively promoting the use of superior-quality 5M fibreglass doors as an creative alternative to the traditional wooden and PVC doors.
“Embossed with wood grains and textures, the 5M fibreglass doors combine the aesthetic appeal of traditional wooden doors with an excellent quality/price ratio and higher strength,” says Hussain M Al Mohsin, general manager.
The external skin of the 5M fibreglass Sheet Moulding Compound (SMC) doors is four times harder than natural wood while being lighter, from 14 kg to 38 kg per door weight, according to size and model.
“SMC fibreglass doors use the new compression moulding technology in the creation of fibreglass surfaces, which enables the door to possess great tensile strength, high impact and good fire resistance, excellent insulation and superior weather resistance. This high strength door will never sag, split or dent,” he adds.
“Unlike their wood counterparts, these doors do not pose the risk of deformation or cracking, have high impact resistance, cannot be affected by termites and rot, and can be easily maintained. They also provide good sound and heat insulation and can withstand extreme temperatures ranging from Arctic cold to blazing desert heat. They are virtually maintenance free and can be used in wet areas such as bathrooms,” he points out.
Mohsin continues: “The 5M doors are also preferred over PVC doors for many reasons. Fibreglass is a natural insulator, comprising 70 per cent glass, is CFC (chlorofluorocarbon)-free, resistant to UV (ultraviolet rays) and not electrostatic, unlike PVC doors. In addition, PVC doors are 10 times more susceptible to thermal forces than fibreglass.”
“The 5M Fibreglass doors have an extremely hard surface, are have eight times higher shear strength and can be used for a wider range of applications, compared to PVC doors.
Al Mohsin’s range of ISO 9002-certified 5M fibreglass doors enhance doorways in both indoor and outdoor applications in the region. Varied in their design to suit individual style and tastes, they are said have the following features:
• The door skin is compressed from fibreglass SMC 2500 tonnes/ sheet, making the texture extremely durable and long lasting, where even accidental cigarette burns will not leave marks on the surface;
• Extruded PVC border prevents warping due to humidity in the bathroom;
• The luxury door leaf contains extruded solid PVC foam all around to improve stability and solidity;
• The SMC fibreglass doors can satisfactorily resist a force of up to 300 pounds from any direction;
• These doors can be painted in a wide range of colours such as mahogany, black grain and oak among others, or as per customer request;
• The polyurethane foam (32 kg/cu m) between the outside fibreglass skin surfaces enable the excellent sound insulation;
• Many various locks and high quality of hinges – gold, antique bronze or stainless steel – can be used in these fibreglass doors.
The 5M SMC fibreglass doors have been tested by Intertek Testing Services in various categories, according to the American Standard Test Materials (ASTM) standard and have showed satisfactory results, he adds.
The Al Mohsin range also includes the 5M PVC foam jambs that are claimed to be strong and hard-wearing and suitable for use with most wet and dray construction methods;
The Al Mohsin trading division, meanwhile, has gained a reputation for supplying premium products from international manufacturers including:
