
Abu Dhabi Municipality has awarded a Dh16.5 million ($4.46 million) contract to Metito, the water and wastewater treatment specialist, for the construction of a fully integrated sewerage system to serve Delma Island, UAE.
The new system will mean that the sewage will no longer be dumped but rather made use of by being treated to further assist in the island's development and its preservation of water.
Metito (Overseas) Limited managing director Fady Juez says: "We are proud to have won this contract. This project, due to be completed in October 2001, will bring significant benefits to the residents of Delma Island."
The firm will be responsible for every element of the project from detailed engineering to manufacturing, supplying materials, construction, commissioning and maintenance of the mechanical and electrical works of the system. Metito is a global leader in water treatment works, water desalination and sewage treatment systems.
UAE studies tenders on road
Abu Dhabi: The UAE Public Works Department (PWD) is evaluating tenders for a feasibility study on the upgradation of the road from Mafraq to the Saudi border. According to the PWD's blueprint, the first phase stretching from Mafraq to Mirfa is estimated to cost Dh900 million ($245 million). The project calls for a detailed study on the 335-km dual carriageway from Mafraq interchange to Ghuwaifat, about 30 km beyond Sila, at the Saudi border.
Turkey fair in Damascus
Damascus: Made in Turkey 2000, Turkish Industry and Trade Fair will be organised in Damascus from May 8-12. The fair, being organised by Tuyap Faris and Exhibitions Organisation in cooperation with Allied Trading Enterprises - Damascus, will be held at the Damascus International Fair Centre. A range of products from construction, machinery, textile, food processing industries will be exhibited at the fair, which will have 68 Turkish companies participating.
Dubai warns against misleading ads
Dubai: The Dubai Municipality has warned contracting firms against publishing misleading advertisements in local newspapers with false promises on construction activities.
Engineer Abdul Rahman Al Sharid, director of the building and housing department at Dubai Municipality, said some local contracting firms have been advertising that they could construct villas, warehouses and other buildings in a record time at a very low cost with designs and drawings done free of charge.
He indicated that these claims were unrealistic and impossible to achieve.
