The Abu Dhabi Works Department has invited prequalification bids for two packages as part of the expansion of Abu Dhabi International Airport. The first package calls for the construction of a new terminal and satellite building. The new complex will have a built-up area of 90,000-100,000 sq m and has been designed to blend with the existing facilities at the airport. The terminal will have a span of 60 m and will be made of titanium to ensure its light weight, making it the first of its kind in the world, according to a spokesman for Aeroports de Paris, the consultant on the project. The satellite will be a rotunda, bigger than the existing one, with a diameter of 100 m.

The second package is for a second runway at Abu Dhabi International Airport. Halcrow International Partnership is the consultant on the project while the project manager is Parsons International Limited.

Meanwhile, a Dh12.5 million ($3.40 million) contract has been awarded to Bin Ham Electro Mechanical for installation of state-of-the-art landing instrumentation at the airport. The new equipment will enable aircraft to land at the airport even when visibility is down to only 50 m.
