Oman LNG's second natural gas liquefaction train is now ready for start-up. This follows the successful loading and export of the first cargo of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Korea in early April
Ready for start-up of the second train was been achieved 14 days ahead of schedule on April 18, and some two months after the plant began producing LNG from the first of the two process trains.
General manager and chief executive of Oman LNG, Graham Searle, said: "The achievement of this new milestone means that Oman LNG will shortly be able to begin the build up to its full production capacity of 6.6 million tonnes per year (mtpy). The completion of this second train two weeks ahead of schedule is a tribute to our main engineering, procurement and construction contractor Chiyoda Foster Wheeler (CFW) and its subcontractors who have done an excellent job of building the most technologically advanced LNG plant in the world, and have helped Oman LNG bring this project on stream on time and under budget."
The Oman LNG plant is now virtually complete, with both of the 3.3 mtpy process trains finished. Formal hand-over of the entire site to Oman LNG from the main contractor CFW is expected to take place in the third quarter of 2000.
