Two companies under the AIGG (Architectural Ironmongery Group Germany) will be returning to the Big 5 show for the second time in as many years, with an array of their latest systems.
German locking system specialist KFV Karl Fliether in association with FCV Fliether will introduce its new range of locks and hardware systems and is looking forward to capitalise on the region-wide coverage that the show promises to provide, says marketing director Angelika Wesselkamp.
“The Gulf market offers excellent prospects,” says Wesselkamp, “and we intend to promote some of our leading products and services in the region through the show.”
KFV is a producer of door locks for metal, timber and uPVC, multi-point locking systems, electronic locks, mortice door locks, glass door locks, brand name KFV, Genius and Kafli, while FCV manufactures cylinders and keys, master key and general master key systems required for electronic locking systems under the brand names Kafli and FCV.
Genius
The Genius electro-magnetic locking and unlocking system is among one of the recent innovations from KFV.
The system – available in different versions – is suitable for private housing, industrial and public buildings and combines the highest security features of a mechanical multi-point lock with the convenience of modern electronics, says a spokesman.
“Depending on the application, the multi-point lock will incorporate either additional pin bolts, hook bolts or a combination of the two can be utilised (AS 2300; AS 2500; AS 2600 respectively) to secure and compress weather gaskets at the top and bottom of the door. The Genius possesses an integrated electronically-controlled gear motor to drive the locking points,” he adds.
The Genius is also available as a ‘Comfort’ version, allowing a quick internal handle override of the locking points in the event of an emergency electrical power shutdown and is compatible with a wide range of external components such as keypad entry, intercoms, swipe cards, timers, revolving door drives and alarm systems.
A special version of the Genius is also available which enables its operation with an automatic door opener. In addition, the system can also be operated by a KFV radio frequency or infrared remote control.
The option of a handheld KFV Key Fob transmitter is also available for easy unlocking of the door, in all building types. The Key Fob is slim, handy and encased in a smooth plastic coating. It is highly protected from the environment and can be easily connected to a key ring. The system is simple to operate, convenient and is suitable for many applications. The Genius has an automatic unlocking procedure, which works as soon as the Key Fob comes into close proximity with the reader unit (transmitter aerial).
Many Key Fobs can be supplied to operate a common entrance door. For example, the Key Fob is suitable for use with properties and administrative buildings because of their low cost per unit. Possible applications are for residents in block of flats or a computer room in a school, where access is only permitted to students who receive a Key Fob. If lost or stolen, the maintenance-free Key Fobs can be blocked immediately. They do not require a battery to power them. The power needed to operate the Key Fob is obtained from the signal permanently sent by the aerial transmitter.
The code length of the transmitted data is 64 bit. This means that there are over a trillion different combinations (a 20 digit number). The reading unit (transmitter aerial) is suitable for indoors as well as outdoors and can be mounted hidden behind non-metallic covers. The accompanying electronic evaluation unit is internally located in a protected area behind the door.
KFV/FCV
KFV and FCV have a staff strength of 700 employees. KFV has five production facilities while FCV has one.
Commenting on the domestic markets, Wesselkamp says: “Despite the general decreasing building market during the last years, our turnover has remained at a steady level, which is a satisfying development for our company. However, our sales this year have been above that achieved in 2004..
“We have been expanding production facilities to keep up with the demands of the new markets. The purchase of a new production facility in Germany has helped in the optimizing of our production processes. On the products side, we have introduced anti-panic features for our locks and door furniture, in particular for commercial and business buildings,” Wesselkamp adds.
AIGG is an association of four well-known German companies in the lock and hardware industry. Besides, KFV and FCV, AIGG also includes KWS and Helm which are also market leaders in technical development in their respective product segments.
KWS produces a wide variety of hardware for doors and railings in steel, stainless steel, brass and aluminium. Its products are sold worldwide and feature high quality and excellent design.
Helm is a leading producer of fittings for sliding doors and gates.
KFV and FCV will be present at AIGG’s Stand 8A411, in hall 8.
