Having completed the mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) works at the Madinat Jumeirah in a record time of 28 months, Trans Gulf Electro-Mechanical attributes its success to its pro-active approach and team spirit.
"These were the two main ingredients required to complete this Dh310 million ($85 million) fast-track job in a demanding environment,” says Sekhar Reddy, assistant general manager (projects) for the Dubai-based building service provider. “We are happy to have met the challenge of developing this magnificent resort which is destined to be a major tourist attraction in the region.”
Despite the fact that Madinat Jumeirah was a demanding project, Trans Gulf has maintained its quality standards and executed some of the most complex tasks during the course of the fast-track job, including an 8.5-km chilled water mains and a 12,700-tonne central plant that meets the demands of the entire Madinat project, says Reddy.
Trans Gulf also completed works on the two five-star hotels (Mina A’Salam and Al Qasr) comprising of more than 900 guest rooms and luxury suites, restaurants, recreation facilities including †swimming pools, spa and other services and shopping mall, multipurpose venue, banqueting hall, health club with a total built-up area of over 255,000 sq m in all three phases of the project.
The manmade canal with ‘sea intake water mover pumps’ and outfall pumps to ensure a continuous flow of water is a unique feature in this part of the world.
The company assigned most of its ample resources to the project including a 200-member team that was ably assisted by more than 1,100 technicians, he says.
Reddy stresses that the above works could not have been achieved without the support, guidance and drive the project management team (Mirage Mille), the Consultants (RPW Consulting Engineers - mechanical consultants, CKR Consulting Engineers - electrical consultants, and Africon - plumbing and fire-fighting consultants) and the builders (Bu Haleeba Contracting LLC - Al Jaber LTA Engineeering Construction (ALEC) and Al Habtoor-Murray & Roberts) and various supporting bodies have played a role in transferring the project from drawing board to the shores of Dubai.
Trans Gulf, which is part of Saeed and Mohammed Al Naboodah Group, has more than 30 years of experience in the building services industry and has over 400 successful projects to its credit.
“These projects have met or even exceeded the clients’ requirement and have helped Trans Gulf in becoming one of the leaders in the local industry,” says Reddy. “As part of its continuous efforts at meeting the ever-changing market conditions and increasing customers’ demands, Trans Gulf has adopted a quality management system, which enables it to comply with ISO 9001-2000 standard.
The company, which has IQA and IQNet certifications, is staffed by 350 engineering and administrative personnel and supported by a 1,500-strong technical team.
Says Reddy: “Trans Gulf has earned the reputation of being the best services contractor for fast-track jobs for the simple reason that we closely interact with the project team and go the extra mile to meet the deadlines.
“Our history clearly shows Trans Gulf has an enviable record of completing all its projects within the stipulated time period as the company does not over commit. With our expertise in handling fast-track jobs, it is not wrong to claim that Trans Gulf has ample experience to cope with the new construction trends in a vibrant emirate like Dubai.
“The company executes MEP services contracts by providing adequate resources, using efficient and economical method, complying with construction codes, specifications and standards described by the clients. The company chalks out a detailed programme of work for the various areas, once the builder’s detailed programme is made available. This work programme is then continuously monitored so as to avoid delays to target dates.”
The site stores of Trans Gulf are fully computerised for operation and all inventories are connected to the central store, located in Al Qusais. Moreover, manpower administration is fully computerised for effective control and accountability.
In addition, the company also has a full-fledged mechanical workshop and duct fabrication wing at Ghusais – established in 1990 – which uses raw materials imported from Japan and South Africa, he adds.
Apart from the hotels and the villas at the Madinat Jumeirah, Trans Gulf has recently carried out work at the Royal Mirage Phase II, Commercial Bank of Dubai headquarters, various contracts at the Dubai International Airport, Mercato Shopping Centre in Jumeirah; commercial and residential buildings and luxury villas for various other clients. Its earlier projects include landmarks such as the Fairmont Hotel, Le Meridien (Mina Siyahi) Hotel, the Airport Hotel and Shola Complex for Naboodah.
