Bechtel has announced the reopening of the south span of Al Mat Bridge – a key transportation link in Iraq.
The four-lane bridge, around 300 km west of Baghdad and 180 km from the Jordanian border, is one of three priority bridges that Bechtel is reconstructing in Iraq.
Al Mat is located on Highway 10 that carries over 3,000 trucks daily, bringing humanitarian aid and goods to Baghdad and other Iraqi cities from Jordan. Both bridge spans suffered extensive damage during the conflict and have been closed since early last year.
To accommodate traffic on this vital route, Bechtel had constructed a bypass around the damaged bridge, which opened last July.
