Oman is likely to award multi-million-dollar contracts later this year for a modern wastewater collection and treatment system in the wilayat of Bausher, the second biggest and most developed of Muscat Governorate’s six wilayats.

Oman Wastewater Services Company (OWSC) is developing a sewerage network for  Muscat Governorate in a phased manner. The total investment in the network over a 10-year period is estimated to be more than RO350 million ($909 million).
About 18,000 households will benefit from the new wastewater collection and treatment system, to be completed by the second half of 2006.
“What is envisaged is a very modern system designed to meet the wastewater collection and treatment needs of the wilayat over the next 50 years,” said Hamed Ali Matar Al Jabri, OWSC projects manager.
The contract is likely to be announced in July or August this year.
• The Regional Municipalities, Environment and Water Resources Ministry has awarded a RO8 million ($20 million) contract to Metito and Target (Oman) to provide a comprehensive sewerage system in Ibra Town.
The project involves the construction of a sewerage network and upgrading and expanding the existing sewage treatment plant in the historic Omani town. The scheme will have the capacity to handle the current requirements and the future growth of Ibra.
The sewerage network will involve laying 78 km of GRP (glass fibre reinforced plastic), HDPE (high density polyethylene) and uPVC (unplasticised poly vinyl chloride) pipelines. fully operational by April next year, said officials.
