Carillion Alawi in $235m Oman deal
Carillion Alawi has won a £120 million ($235.8 million) contract to build the House of Musical Arts from Oman Royal Court Affairs.

The House of Musical Arts will have a 1,000-seat concert hall to accommodate the full range of arts, including music and drama productions as well as opera, the company said.
The work will be completed in three years.
Work suspended at Tubli Bay
Bahrain has suspended further development on the reclaimed land at Tubli Bay for a six-month period until a new coastline is drawn.
With the move, the Central Municipal Council aims to ensure that the bay’s shores, which are in a protected zone under a Royal decree issued last August, are open to the public and are not part of private property.
Councillors also instructed the Central Municipality to halt any building licences in the area until the end of the year to determine which land would be bought from their owners to be turned into public shores.
Bahrain plans new exhibition centre
Bahrain is planning to build a world-class exhibition centre more than twice the size of the existing Bahrain International Exhibition Centre (BIEC).
However, officials of the centre added that even this would barely cover growth projections for the local events and exhibitions market. “At the moment, we only have two halls,” Bahrain Exhibition and Convention Authority (BECA) chief executive Mohammed Dhirar Al Shaer said. “Hall One is around 8,000 sq m, while Hall Two is around 6,000 sq m. Looking to the future, this total space will not be enough for Bahrain.”
The BECA has submitted a proposal for a new exhibition centre, covering more than 30,000 sq m, to the government. The new facility would be located on a new site and could well be built on reclaimed land.
The existing exhibition centre plans to build two semi-permanent tents of 2,000 sq m to accommodate spill-over from the biggest events.
