The Freedom Suq.

Bahrain-based Kooheji Contractors has recently awarded Gulf Shade, a leading tensile fabric company, the contract for the Freedom Suq project.

“The project, which will cover an area of 600 sq m, consists of three fabric hypars joined at one point. Each hypar is supported by a tilted column with a stainless steel cable held to the ground. The fabric chosen is Ferrari PVC 1002 S Formula, in a white colour.
The Freedom Suq is constructed to provide a shade for a café area in Juffair, says a spokesman for the company.
In addition, the company has also been awarded the contract for a roof tensile structure at the RCSI Medical University of Bahrain, which is currently under construction.
The main contractor on the project is GP Zachariades (Overseas).
“The project consists of a PTFE roof on the upper floor of the main building and canopies covering walkways at the university’s surroundings,” says a spokesman for the Bahrain-based company. “The canopies are in the shape of a capsized boat, supported on steel frame.”
The contract covers a total area of 2,000 sq m of roofing and is to be handed over by the middle of 2008, he adds.
