Reef Island ... on the fast track.

Al Hamad Contracting Com-pany has been awarded the main contract for the first phase of the Reef Island development in Bahrain.

The BD60 million ($159.13 million), 18-month contract to build eight elite residential buildings, 49 beach villas and 14 luxury villas at Bahrain’s landmark project, was signed last month.
“The signing with Al Hamad is part of our obsession with safety, reliability and commitment. This is a prestigious project where reliability and commitment counts the most, in addition to safety. The project will be an icon in Bahrain so we need some of the best-known names to be involved in it,” said Reef Island project manager Waleed Hayek.
“While land reclamation work on this island project was completed in September 2005, all the marine works – which were awarded to Ahmed Mansoor Al A’ali (AMA), the main contractor for maritime and infrastructure works – are due for completion by the end of this month,” said Elias Karaan, general manager of Lulu Tourism Company. “The infrastructure works are expected to be completed by the end of the year and will include roads, sewage treatment, power, electricity and water networks among others.”
The entire development will be built in an area of 6.23 million sq ft island on the shores of Manama hosting luxurious residential designs, various open areas and vibrant parts all over the property.
The man-made island, being developed by Lulu Tourism Company, is a partnership between the Government of Bahrain and the Mouawad Group for Real Estate Investment.
“The island will comprise 39 residential buildings, 65 villas, 49 beach villas and a five-star hotel. It will also feature a spa, shopping mall, wellness centre, a marina and a yacht club.”
He said the first phase is expected to complete early 2009, while the second will be completed at the end of 2010.
Al Hamad chairman Nashat Farhan Sahawneh said the company has been extremely encouraged with the latest signing which brings to the fore once again its commendable performance in the kingdom.
