SAUDI Tabreed has been appointed by Saudi Aramco to develop and operate a district cooling system for its buildings in the Dhahran area.

The terms of the 23-year agreement require Saudi Tabreed to design, construct, finance, own, operate and maintain a centralised cooling plant and a network to supply chilled water to the Saudi Aramco buildings with a cooling capacity of 27,000 tons of refrigeration.
Mohammed bin Abdullah Abunayyan, chairman of Saudi Tabreed board of directors said: “Saudi Aramco has demonstrated its commitment to protecting the environment by putting into operation a district cooling system that consumes just half the electrical energy used by traditional methods of cooling.”
He also said the project reflects the keenness of Saudi Aramco in private sector participation in the development of current and future projects planned by the company.
Nabeel Abdullah Al Jama, executive director for community services, Saudi Aramco, said this deal emphasised Saudi Aramco’s concern for energy conservation as well as its eagerness to see private sector companies invest and work in its projects, which will reflect positively on the national economy.
The district cooling process involves generating chilled water from one or multiple sources and distributing to a cluster of buildings in the same district using pre-insulated pipe network.
