SHOPS in the newly-renovated area of the Manama suq in Bahrain, which has been beset by more than two years of delays, are finally set to open.

Keys have already been handed to owners and tenants, who only have to complete their interior decoration, said Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) retail sales and traditional markets committee head Jawad Al Hawaj.
“The shops have been handed over to the owners and to the tenants but it is they who have to do up the interiors before they are ready to start business,” he said.
The BD5 million ($13.26 million) first phase of the renovation was originally due to be completed in May 2007.
Work on the project, which centres on Bab Al Bahrain Avenue and the parallel Al Mutanabi Road, began in December 2006.
