DUBAI'S  multi-billion-dollar metro got off to a flying start last month with more than a million passengers using the service within the first 15 days of its launch.

The Red Line of the Dubai Metro was inaugurated by UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum in the presence of Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Deputy Ruler and Minister of Finance Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Deputy Ruler Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority Sheikh Majid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, a number of sheikhs, ministers, dignitaries, and a host of Arab and foreign media.
Built a cost of $7.6 billion, the metro is world’s longest and the Middle East’s first fully automated, driverless rail transport system. 
The Red Line runs for a total distance of 52 km. Under the second phase, the Green Line is to be launched in March next year.
