DID’s interior decor ... a personal approach.

DETAILS Interior Design (DID), which was established in Bahrain less than six months ago, will be promoting itself as a one-stop shop for interior design services at gulfBID next month.

Led by chief interior designer Huda Shamroukh, DID has a dedicated team capable of providing high-class interior and exterior design as well as home improvement services.
“Interior design is my passion and I approach all projects, large or small, with the same fervour,” says Shamroukh, who majored in interior design from the Lebanon Centre of Fine Arts in 1973.
Over the last three decades, Shamroukh pursued a career in interior design in Lebanon, Saudi Arabia and the US, before setting up shop in Bahrain.
“My projects in Lebanon included nine branches of Al Mawarid Bank. I also designed the interiors for a number of villas in Riyadh,” she says. “But it was Bahrain that welcomed me with open arms giving me a number of projects in the first four months of our launch, that too, when everyone was talking about the downturn sweeping the region.”
Shamroukh expects the downturn to have a minimal impact on Bahrain because the kingdom’s planners “have always been realistic in their aspirations”.
“It’s only when you live beyond your means or speculate wildly that you end up hitting the bottom of the abyss,” she says. “The kingdom is on a strong growth path and offers an ideal climate for business to prosper. The interiors sector has witnessed considerable growth over the last four years, while the property boom has not been stoked by unreal factors.”
DID’s projects in the kingdom include the fit-out of 14 villas in Janabiya, a large office complex in Seef, a two-storey penthouse in Hoora, a villa in Busaiteen and an office in the Diplomatic area.
Shamroukh says that though the downturn has forced many manufacturers out of business, there has been no shortfall in materials specified by interior design and fit-out specialists. “On the contrary, there’s now a glut in the market with a wide range of products available at competitive rates, as many firms are slashing prices just to keep afloat.”
And what does DID have to offer over its competitors?  Personal service and impeccable attention to detail, according to Shamroukh.
“Our personal approach allows clients to be part of the design process. I am ‘hands-on’ and closely involved with a project from start to finish, ensuring it meets the customer’s specifications,” she says, adding that DID is committed to translating each client’s style into a personal statement.
“Well-designed interiors require a comfortable collaboration. Design is a dialogue. It is an ongoing conversation with our clients that goes beyond the fundamentals of space planning and budget. It touches on passion and lifestyle and emotions. It is about challenging our clients’ expectations, enabling them to make informed decisions that lead to inspired results,” she explains, adding that DID’s design process incorporates space planning, lighting, furnishings, artwork and accessories.
DID has four divisions – Interior Design, Furniture Design, Curtains, Wallpapers and Accessories, and Garden Furniture Design – including a free consultancy service on home improvements.
“We can handle all aspects of an interiors project,” says Shamroukh.
DID’s creative touch, versatility and attention to detail together translate into quality craftsmanship.
“We design our furniture with a keen attention to details and our vision is to produce innovative contemporary furniture which are works of art. Innovation and superior craftsmanship are our trademarks,” says Shamroukh.
In conclusion, Shamroukh reiterates the importance of building a relationship between client and designer.
“This is achieved by our approach that first studies the client’s requests, vision, and lifestyle,” she says. “Together, we identify the specifications before developing a design that combines style and functionality within the budget – and the result is an elegant and comfortable home. Whether designing a new home, remodelling or redecorating, remember: good design lies in the details.”
DID will be displaying its products at Stand No 1A06.
