

Having completed several projects in the kingdom, the Alasco Group - a leading Bahrain-based player in innovative solar protection systems - is looking forward to boost its presence in the region following the recent opening of a new office in Bahrain.
This will soon be followed by similar expansion activities into other GCC countries such as Qatar, followed with Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and the UAE.
The new office for building accessories and tents, was inaugurated last month by the Minister of Commerce and Industry, Dr Hasan Fakhro.
The company, which recorded a turnover of BD2 million to BD3 million ($750,000 to $1.13 million) annually, over the last few years, is specialised in tensile shading membranes and precast walls. "We mainly handle large corporate projects and rarely deal with individual projects," says Bassam El Zein, sales and marketing manager.
Alasco aims to be an industry leader throughout the Middle East with a wide range of innovative products such as multi-purpose sunshades, curtains, wooden ceilings, tents and other household accessories. The company also offers a wide range of world-class solar protection and shading solutions include arc shades, awnings, window blinds, canopies, shades for car parks, swimming pools and playgrounds, sail shades, tensile shades, domes, gazebos, tents, canopies, rolling shutters and blinds.
"We have expanded greatly over the last one and half years. From a team of two or three individuals and a small workshop in 1995, the company now boasts of 150 employees, with an engineering staff comprising 20 per cent of our total strength. We now have different specialised sectors within the company and have a total of eight companies in the region," El Zein points out.
"Our engineering department plays a decisive role in introducing breakthrough technologies as well as in improving existing technology in innovative solar protection systems. We are well equipped to cope with rapid technological change and are adaptable and flexible in our approach," he adds.
The Alasco Group also has a factory for wooden and aluminium blinds in Bahrain. It presently has some major ongoing projects that include the Al Areen Park and the Royal University for Women in Bahrain, among others.
