Ashghal (Public Works Authority of Qatar) is currently investing QR1.5 billion ($410 million) in rebuilding the sewage network in Doha and Al Khor, Qatar.

Saad Ahmed Al Misnad, director of contract and engineering affairs at Ashghal, said: "The sanitation sector has signed 24 contracts valued at QR1.5 billion - while QR66 million is being spent on consultancy."
The projects are being carried out in phases. Sewage water will also be treated and then recycled for agricultural use, he said.
Work on the Al Khor project, valued at QR82 million, started in February and will be completed in May 2008. The project includes designing, construction and operation of a treatment plant. The existing plant in Al Khor will be replaced by the new one being built at the same location. Maintenance will also be carried out by the contractor, the official said.
