The value of paint manufactured and purchased in the UAE is estimated to be more than Dh630 million ($175 million).
Al Gurg Leigh’s Paints marketing manager Ashish Chaturvedy says almost 60 per cent of the total paint consumed in the UAE is from the exterior coatings segment.
He was speaking at a seminar where ICI Dulux launched a new exterior emulsion paint called ‘Weathershield’- designed to withstand the UAE’s high temperatures.
Available in several smooth and texture finishes, Dulux Weathershield guarantees 15 years protection against UV (ultraviolet) rays, helps bridge fine cracks, is resistant to moisture and has flame retardant properties. The paint does not contain any added lead or mercury thus making the product environment-friendly.
“Annually, ICI spends more than $50 million on research and development and 35 per cent of our business is represented by new products,” adds ICI Paints managing director Tony Myers. “The innovative technology behind Weathershield will ensure more durability of exterior surfaces and significant savings for customers.”
Last year, ICI Dulux achieved sales of more than Dh192 million ($52.2 million) in the Middle East and estimated sales growth to reach Dh640 million ($174.2 million) by 2010.
